Thouhgts on a New i7-3930k Build

Okay so I am thinking of making my first foray into watercooling with my upcoming build. I am building a i7-3930k in a corsair 650D. Will be attempting to do dual sli at some point but not now due to limited funds. There is so muhc information on what is good and what not and I am trying to take it all in but figured I would ask some pro's for suggestions on what parts I should get what I should waste my money on and so forth. So any advice would be appreciated. With that I'm off to reading the various begginner guides to WC.

What are you using the rig for?

I'd be surprised if you could fit enough rads into a 650d to cool a 3930k and SLI?

Mostly gaming. Maybe a little personal video editing. Nothing outrageous. Im kinda just wanting to see how far I can push it. Ive done a little oc'ing before FSB type stuff BSEL mod's but never used water and kinda thought maybe now was the time.

Can I get a dual fan rad in the 650D. I thought I saw it somewhere that you could get a 120.2 in it but now I cant find it and am unsure. Only planning to cool the CPU for the time being and may go to the 800D at some point which should offer me better options for GPU cooling. But looking for the best set up under 400-500 to get my clock up.

You'd probably be better off saving money and going with an H100i instead of proper watercooling IMO.
Considering you can't put a massive rad in the top of a 650D (you are right in a 240mm rad in the roof, but that's pretty small) and for what it's worth, you're probably just better with an H100.

Also, if you aren't doing massively intensive stuff, I'd say you'd be better saving money and getting a 3770k. 3930ks are only really for people who do a lot of video rendering and other CPU intensive tasks.

My only concern on not going with the 3930k is the socket. Ultimately I want something that I can keep for maybe close on to five years. I mean realistically computers go out of fashion rather quickly but if I by the socket they are phasing out I feel as though I will be more limited two years down the road on what I can do with it. Not to mention the coolness if having a ridiculous proc.

You really do not need a 3930k for your needs. The money you save by going Z77 will more than make up for a new board with a different socket if you decide to change in 2/3 years.

Get what you need now and save the money and upgrade when you need to. That is a lot of money to be spending just for the sake of the coolness if you do not need it.

Also with the money saved you could get a different case and do a nice custom cpu loop or just save more money and stick a H100 in until you save money for a loop with the gpu too.

You could always go with the 3820 on a 2011 board? That would save quite a few ££s and be ideal for what you want. The socket would last a bit longer too.

But to be honest if you are just gaming then the i5 3570K and a mobo can be had for under £300 which is so much cheaper that you can afford to upgrade more regularly and keep the entire system up to date with current features. If you plan on keeping a board for like 5 years then you will probably miss new implementations of features like USB 4, new RAM speeds, thunderbolt becoming mainstream and god knows what else hasn't even been invented yet...
