Friend of mine is about to get the Z/Zx and I was wondering what everyone's opinion is on the card when compared to Asus cards etc... ?

Any Xonar will jizz all over anything that creative make tbh. The new stuff is worse than the old stuff IMHO

Currently have a Xonar D2X I bought, an Essence STX I bought and have just got an STX II that for once Asus sent in :D

Yeah theres a second one 'coming' but its likely to be silly expensive. I dont even know yet and thats normally a sign its going to make credit cards melt

There's always desk amps/dacs if you don't fancy an Asus card.

But that's more clutter on the desk, I'm all for SC's inside the case, Looks neat if done right and to my ears I can't tell the difference, I have years of heavy mosh pits to thank for that lol ^_^

Or they can often compliment the desk - there's two ways of looking at it :)

That's true but I prefer only a few things on the desk, Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard, Mouse mat, Headset and headset stand ^_^

I personally love having a DAC/Amp on the desk... far prefer a physical volume control than a software one, same goes for my speakers as you don't get the same satisfaction wacking up the volume if you use software :P

Exactly, me too. A nice tube amp looks great or something like the Mayflower and Schiit stuff look very smart.

My problem with my E10 is that it's actually too small, makes the cables more visible and I have to change volume by keeping one hand on the top to stop it scooting along the desk.

Back on topic, creative's audio solutions these days are horrible, at least the old x-fi stuff sounded good when it (granted, occasionally) worked.

The last thing I had from Creative Labs was the Soundblaster Awe64 Gold way back in 96' cost me the best part of £200, but since integrated audio got better I haven't bought a soundcard since.

Gonna need to dig out my "older" 16bit Adlib Pro for throwback Thursday.

I have the ZX and I absolutely love it upgraded from my sound blaster 5.1 surround it was a serious jump.... got to love blue ray on a booming system :D

I've tried the ZX, Got it right infront of me, Compared it to the onboard SupremeFX on the Maximus VI Formula today and WOW, They both sound the same and in certain areas the creative card actually sounds more hollow and less, Well, Just less
