Those Nvidia 690's

2gb of usable ram. waste of money. You will use up the video ram LONG before you reach a resolution that will utilize both GPUs.

To put this in perspective for you: BF3 on ONE 1080p display will all the 690 will handle without running into bottnecks from lack of vRAM at and resolution bigger than 1080p.

Incorrect.

I'd have to agree. Every bench I've seen, even with 3 screens, doesn't show the 680 starved for memory. Maybe at extreme resolutions with custom high texture packs we will start to see the limits of 2GB, but until then I have to say that 2GB is plenty.

What game? I hit 2gb on one 1080p display with BF3. And I notice an occasional FPS drop because of it. Also with a few other games that hit over 2gb: Crysis 1, Crysis 2, Minecraft, Skyrim, and CivV. All of these games are staved because my 680 lacks the amount of vRAM and that is with one 1080p screen.

Clearly the card is meant to do more than what the 680 can do because of its 2 cores but it cant do much more than the 680 because of its 2gb or RAM.

I also I know for a fact AND from experience. I own a 6990 not as powerful as the 690 but still has 4gb of vram (2gb usable) and it is more that powerful enough to handle BF3 on ONE 1080p display. But guess what? Once I hit 2gb my steady 60 FPS stays at the low 50 to mid 40s.

I am not going to pay $1000 for a card that will run out of vRAM before running out of GPU juice.

Reviews don't really show the occasional FPS drop. They usually just show averages. Are you using any custom texture packs or is that just the stock game? A bit disappointing for sure if you can't use a 690 with 3 screens at high res if you are going to be limited by vram.

Crysis 1 and Minecraft I am using higher res textures. $1000 is just to much for only 2gb of usable vRAM, 4gb is more the $1000 range. I know it is equal to to 680 cores BUT the whole point of a the dual GPU cards was to be cheaper than getting 2 full cards. especially considering you will have FAR more benefits getting full 2 680s because of overclockability and less heat. So for the same price dual 680s is a MUCH BETTER buy. Unless they price it at $800

I am not saying it is a terrible card, in fact it is a great card. But to price it as the same a 2 full 680s is stupid.

that card is like having a buggatti veyron and living in center of london.

you spend a absolute fortune and get an amazing car but really not very good for every day use.

but if you got the spare cash then y not you'll have a collectors item after all.

gtx 295's can still sell for well over £100 even tho a 570 performs better and can run dx11

just wait for the mars vesion lol thats more money than sense right there lol
