First post here so be nice. Hehe. :p

A friend of mine (Drazic) has a Conroe which he has at 4.6GHz. I'm usually an AMD boy but the speeds that thses have been pulling out I've decided to move to 'the darkside' :O Well, when I have a job that is!

Now my question(s):

Which mobo would you recomend?

Which RAM?

Lastly, which cooling?

Wouldn't mind trying Phase change out now.

I know there are a lot of topics about it but I was hoping for some decent answers.

Cheers. :D

Right, he doesn't have the chip atm, I do -

a) The chip can NOT do 4.6Ghz on phase, it will do what it says in my sig, on MY unit which is NOT a standard unit at all. Mine is MUCH colder than a standard unit.

b) The Intel board is ok, but Asus are the way forward from what I've been reading, around £200 i think

c) Patriot PC2 6400 I think we were using under LN2

d) Whatever you can afford but if you want a 4Ghz stable chip it needs to be phase which is £500+

Boardy

Oh right, I was told Pete had it.

I'll probably end up going Phase when I can afford it.

Cheers for the info, I'll have a little look round. :)

Bordy you have my only Conroe rig now. I've had other in the past which Lee might be refering too

The E6700 is the one Lee, when ya ready let me know i'll order it off the ex and get it nice and cheap

Mobo Asus, DFI. Your set for SLI last time i checked ya spec so wait till the Nivida chipset is out on the DFI bord. Lanpart edtion

OCZ or the newer G.skill. Gibbo was trying to get me to test the G.skill but i seen your DDR issues and though no ta. OCZ have some newer stuff out nowe thats mentaly fast. Conore made is what Ryder of OCZ told me

Go back to water, but proper water. This time i'll spec the kit and help you rig it up. That last one was about as hot a sthe pants as your sister wears!!! Sorry had to get that in. Any air cooling will do, 120mm fan is what you like to sue, silent, nice air flow.

Oh and my phase unit is not a std build unit ether, it's a totaly one off custom unit thats had tons of effort and thinking put into it for what it is

Mavv, 40c's is around the 4ghz mark and 1.9v has been used on them on LN2 already. 1.6v seams the comen sfaty target on air and 1.75 water. This form looking at XS as a mass user so far

Now my question(s):

Which mobo would you recomend? - Asus P5W DH Deluxe

Which RAM? - Corsair 6400 C3 vmod the board and let it rip. You'll need up to ~ 2.8v to run it "properly" then it'll fly!

Lastly, which cooling? - Depends on CPU, decent stepping chips will hit 4ghz on air but not uberly stable. High end water or moderate phase will gain you a bit more depends if you want the expense.

"normal" SS might not gain you a load, modded mach2 GT should give you a lot more, these chips dont seem to run as hot as the AMD's do, but ARE hotter than Yonah. FWIW 3ghz yonah runs ~ -28 load under a regassed mach1, -17 on Dothan @ 3.3 w 1.7vCore

Ive got both the asus and that ram but the C5 stuff as ive asked a few ppl and read alot and it seems that latencys dont seem to afect much performnce wise, so i thought id rather have 4gb of slightly high latency ram than 2gb of slightly lower.

I was refering to your sig on T-F.

Bordy says: How fast you doing it now Pete

Pete says: Super pi 1m 7.75 seconds @ 4.6Ghz SS Phase

I don't know which rig you have as you've had around 5. :p

Bordy has my current though i just sold it am awating it's delivery off him

This is more than my 5th Conroe rig. I had 30 ES which i all tested and sold on, now 31 with this one when Bordy gets it back to me

You know it pains me to say this - with the exception of the set-up you let boardy overclock for you, we aint seen no pics of any of the other stuff detailed above.

Time to up my medication me thinks!! :nurse:

Bordys had it all of my recent setup. if i get it back off him then i'll give you pics of it.

I had no camera as it was away on warranty for the other stuff.
