Lads,

Early part of this year, the missis booked us up one of the Sun holidays on the Isle of Wight. Never been before, and we're going in early October.

Anything there worth seeing ? Anything worth doing ?

Stopping in Shanklin, if that's of any use to anyone.

Thanks

Ok so just got back from there. Weather was great. Thoughts...

- Vast majority of the population is 50 + second home owners / retirement couples ?!
- The only real 'shopping area' as such is a place called Newport. Everywhere seems to be idyllic countryside type places.
- The is a guy in Newport who's got a PC shop called 'JustPC's' who talks like he rivals 8 Pack in terms of overclocking.
- There's literally no scum / scallywags / chavs anywhere on the island that I could see.
- There are quite a few B roads where you can only just about fit a skateboard up.
- There are at least 10 - 15 farm shops.

Great holiday though. Would happily go again.

The deep South of the UK and the islands are mainly full of retirement couples mate yes. That's because during winter it turns into Satan's hell sack (wind and rain like you wouldn't believe) so all of the "townies" avoid places like that during winter. There is no work and no jobs during that time, everything shuts down.

Not sure about shopping areas, been a long while since I was on the island itself.

There's one of those in every town haha they call them pillocks :D

There are plenty of scumbags and scallies on there mate, just like any place. I was watching a docu recently about a guy who vanished back in the 90s and was never seen since and they dug into the island's dark underworld.

Look up the docu it's really good :) I will admit though, the percentage of scum/scallies down here is far less than a major town or city, though.

Last two, both the same 'cause of the area :) it's a very small island.
