Thermaltake rips off Caselabs Designs

playing devils advocate here but, maybe the market needs a caselabs lookalike that doesn't cost what a caselabs does....

I dont know, the intention of caselabs cases are aimed at super high end interiors with enough space to make it properly clean everywhere. There is only a small fraction of people willing to spend that much on a system that belongs in a caselabs.

In any case, Thermaltake, ive always thought of you as the snub case designers, willing to design for the hipsters, and there was nothing wrong with it, it was just cheap and crappy made, fair enough to ignore your business from my point of view. Then you ripped hard on Fractal, copying prettymuch the R4 and now you do this. I never would have bought any of your cases, but now i will actively discourage people to do so, shouldnt be hard.

Meh.

Happens all the time.

patent theft, Samsung vs Apple, etc etc.

But I do not like TT approach to stealing caselabs designs. while most try to be discrete TT aren't afraid to say "hey look, here is our version of the Merlin for a cheaper price"

I don't see this as a problem at all.

I looked into buying a Caselabs when I built my dream rig and the shipping and taxes were so high I gave up. Caselabs are expensive already, but add another £250 to that and they're stupid money.

Now either Caselabs need to start selling in the UK and other countries or this sort of thing is bound to happen.

If I were in the market for a case I would be looking strongly toward these.

Imitation is the finest form of flattery, just remember that !

Yeah but you wouldn't be saying that if you owned a brand and then some other cheeky sod came along and took that design and will make money from it.

I really hope this is a joke. If you were the president of a company like Caselabs, imagine how you would feel about the situation. Someone takes your hard work and turns it into a lower-quality rip off. Is that something you would want?

Would you have bought one of those cheap looking Alienware fakes?

Yes and I did !

At the time I was pretty damn skint so I figured what the hell. And it was totally awful, but, it satisfied me for long enough :)

Since then I have owned the real deal and believe me, million miles apart.

I totally understand the quality of Caselabs. I can't tell you how many times I have had one in the cart and have contacted them about shipping. But closing in on £600 for a case kinda hurts so I am looking elsewhere.

I know that some of Thermaltake's stuff is really bad quality, but a case is a case and once it's built it's all about how it looks.

I wouldn't even be considering it if it wasn't for the fact that the shipping and import duties end up costing about the same as the case itself. And try and sell one ! nobody wants them because they want it made for them.

I've seen a red and gray £600 case sell for £150 delivered.

FFS you wouldn't have ANYTHING in your house if it wasn't for somebody else.

Everything you own is a rip off of a design from something before. My wife and I have lots of Art Deco reproductions in our house. Nude bronze statues of women, Tiffany copy lighting

Are you really that naive?

Less of the aggression please.

All out copying like this is bad for the industry and prays on the newcomers.

Have to say, even though I was playing devil's advocate.. I have to agree.
You can't pick those cases up for anything less than 500 smackers realistically, with shipping and tax..

See what I mean about a place in the market, yeah they've copied it totally, but.. people *want* that type of case, but not everyone has 600 quid to throw away to get one, especially when half of that is tax and shipping, surely that's exactly what they're doing?

Not going to argue with someone who consistently insults/offends other forum members. If you can't have a relatively civilized discussion then don't post at all.

We've had many members like you before and they didn't last too long. Just try and keep it nice please.

Lets just draw a line under this before it escalates please.

for the poor poor people that want fancy stuff but got no budget or dont want to pay for it. Yes its nice. But from a designer/company side of view this is what they hate the most. they use it without permission, any reference to the original owner. Than this is a BIG no.

If TT would PAY CL and they would come to an agreement for using some ideas and stuff. Than this would be alright cause than it is with mutual permission. But just copy paste stuff and than show the world that THEY have something new and great?

Nope thats something i just cant accept. There's always someone taking the benefit of it. But than you prove to everyone that you lost all your pride.

Dude I'm not being aggresive.

If it wasn't for Ferdinand Porsche we would not have Ferrari, Pagani, Lamborghini and so on.

And we wouldn't have any of them unless there was capitalism and the world was competitive. Do you think Nvidia lose any sleep every time they release a new GPU and hammer another nail into AMD's coffin? or vice versa? Do you think Intel really care? (of course they don't, they've been sued enough times for malpractice).

I'm not doubting that the guys at Caselabs are really nice. I'm also not saying that their cases are not the Rolls Royce of the case world because they are. However, when you make something so expensive and thus, exclusive you are begging for cheap clones to come along.

They make fibre glass kit cars of Ferraris and so on, people will build them.

I guess Thermaltake are just guilty of being "those guys" who decided to go around copying really expensive products and making them affordable. And you can't blame them in a world of capitalism because that's just how it works.

As an Aspie I hate capitalism and I hate human nature. But, it's either accept that this sort of nasty stuff goes on or I may as well just do myself in now. I've had to accept an awful, awful lot about the world that I live in that I really don't like.

Given that I haven't uttered one direct insult to any one I could say, right back at you. People have actually called me names, where as I just speak about the industry as I find it and certain types of people become offended.

No one can speak their mind without that happening, so I ain't gonna lose any sleep over it.

I was a member here for three years before. I had a ding dong with Tom and he banned me.

Does this forum have an ignore function? if so use it. However, I've found that ignoring people I don't like on forums is easy enough if you have the will, you simply don't read their posts and properly ignore them as you were taught when you were growing up.

This sucks for Caselabs and I have made that abundantly clear. However, it's the way of the world and how our world works.

If you could come up with an idea that you turned into a product and it made you millions of pounds you would do it. We all would, humans are greedy by nature and taught right from young to better themselves and better their lives.

Our world works on money. Your life can be better or worse because of money. You can get better healthcare, better food, better houses and a better car. And that 'call' to a neuro typical is what drives them every single day. You have to go to work for money, and you would rather be doing less for more.

Otherwise we'd all just down tools and not bother.

The thing is, unlike every other cheap clone out there (and these cases are clones, not 'inspired by'), they're made by smaller companies. Thermaltake is huge.

If they were inspired by the designs (in the same way H.Lamborgini bought a ferrari and thought he could do better, thus switching to cars and tractors) I'd think no one would care. Hell I'd welcome it.

Yeah I know they are huge. But the point remains, a good idea in this day and age is a rare thing and will be copied and done to death.

The whole Alienware lust thing has died on its back end and now people simply don't want them any more. The same thing will happen to Beats and so on, one day they just fall out of fashion.

And let's face it, PC building is totally 100% fashion these days. Braided cables, coloured heatsinks, it never ends.

It always has been, LED Fans first coming out, Cathode tube rings on fans, UV cathodes, those god awful plastic covers for IDE cables that 'helped with airflow' for a while, bunch-braided cables were a thing for a while, and now it's all singular, first with heatshrink, now heatshrinkless, and of course paracord.

Yup. Any old tat and rubbish that will capture our imaginations and make us open our wallets.

Thermaltake just seem to be a bit more well versed in it, that's all.
