thermalright hr-09

i have one fitted to an asus p5k deluxe using the big side and one of tyhe push pins then a tie wrap going fromt he hole in the board around the coler pope and back through the pin hole and that side is tighter to the board than the push pins are

like this you cant see the tie wrap very well but thats a good thing

excuse the fan lighting im in the middle of changing the led's to uv ones

not very good pictures, but you get the idea......

before i fitted this bling bling to replace the standard ones, e.g. Asus crap pipe, it never was 'hot' to my touch, even tho i had the board running 1.5v@3.6Ghz.......

i have to say this tho.......if you have a Commando board, i would HIGHLY recommend this bling bling to replace the crap pipe that came with it....

read this :- http://www.thermalright.com/a_page/main_support_hr09.htm

before you give me crap saying they are a lying bunch of money grabber.......no, what thermalright put in that FAQ is true, tho, i only have a Commando board.

the crap pipe from Asus, only have contact with 4 mosfet on my board, but i have 8?!

after a bit of fiddling about, i've managed to get this bling bling to cover 6, not 8, but better than crap pipe.

you can, however, cover all 8, with a bit of modding, ie, dremel.......

even tho you say, water it is better for the money.......consider that i got it from USA, which works out cheaper than either air or water in the UK.....so.....take your pick!

Mate...am loving the reference to the standard heatpipe cooler....AKA "Crap Pipe!" LOL...agreed. My striker extreme northbridge gets well hot....as do the mofset coolers...all in all a pretty "crap" solution to cooling a board which is aimed soley at enthusiasts who like to pump a few extra volts thru and OC their kit.......

So...the question is this...is it worth ar$ing around...draining my system down, getting the "crap pipe" off the system to replace the Northbridge cooler and the mofset crap pipe add ons with some Thermalright L33tness?

i highly recommend you go and arse about fitting these thermalright bling bling!

like cuprasport has said, it is possible to use the 'long' end to cover all the mosfet, or you can be lazy like me, just be done with 6!:D

the reason why i went for this thermalright bling bling.....is because...

1 - im not hard enough to use swiftech ramsinks, cause im

ing it they might fell off!

2 - the idea of not cutting up Asus crap pipe so i can fit a MCW30 will give me a better chance to RMA with a non-chopped crap pipe.

3 - instead of me adding a EK mosfet block for uber bling bling credit, is because......i wanted to see would a thermalright bling bling work!:D :D :p

i did, however, had a HR-09U (U stands for upright, ie, cuprasports version where both heatsink are inline), i fitted it, but i had loads of space to the left or it, so i sold it, bought a HR-09S (where the 2 heatsinks are not inline).

works great on me commando board, deff go for HR-09S, it might give more room for big air coolers too

slightly off-topic, but Mullet, how easy is it to use those other SATA ports on that motherboard?

oh, and isnt the HR09 just a little bit too much? dont the stock heatpipes do ok?

Well....am not overly impressed with the crap pipe solution....sure, the stock crap pipe solution works....but then so does the stock inter LGA775 cooler....that's not really the point.

The point is - I am clocking the system and as the rest of my system is pretty well specced from both a water cooling and componentry perspective I wanted to allow myself a degree of 'safety' in my voltage tweaking. The current crap pipe gets blooooomin roasting hot and the 680i chipset is known to be a 'cooker'.

So - do I get the HR-09S or U (not worried about space for aircoolers cos I am on water.

What thermalright version shall I get for the northbridge

What shall I use on the Southbridge...

Help me with my blingage needs....

:)

Thermalright HR05s are very very very good - i used to have one on my old dfi sli-dr and it dropped temps from 48C -->30C, and that was running passively, but with good air intake from the front.

there is an sli-version where heatpipes come off at an angle for those boards where the sb/nb is in the line of a 16xpci-e card.

i got mine from jab-tech, but they are much more readily available in the UK now.

depends on what you want really......the U or S is same price, same size, but with one slanted and the other inline....

with a striker, i guess 2 HR-09U would be best bet

while you are at it, maybe splash your NB with water instead of another heatsink? if thats not a good idea, something from thermalright seems good, or get that Swiftech NB copper block, weights a ton, comes with a 40mm fan, has hook and screws fittings......

and for your SB, just any old low profile sink would do i guess(have no idea how hot your SB gets)......but for my commando SB, i bought a Enzotech low profile copper heatsink from sidewinder, looks wicked, mirror finish base, or like suggested, a SLi version of their HR-???thing......

once all that is fitted, stand back and enjoy the uber bling bling you've just created, and then just put that crap pipe in a box somewhere in your room incase a RMA is needed.

i found the noctua nc-u6 the best for my nb and put a 40mm fan on it

i have now watercooled my nb and have that on my sb
