The Ultimate case

Welcome to the Ultimate computer case worklog thread on specialtechs forums!

This is a bit of a large project due to the sheer size of the case.

The Pillar case is so called because its quite literally a Pillar of technology, measuring in at 2ft wide by 2ft deep, the real jaw dropping magnitude comes in with its height, SEVEN (yes 7!!!) full length feet make up the height of this goliath!

Consisting of an aluminum framework there will be 3 sections of grilled/meshed areas for radiator mounting, 2x2ft x 2ft acrylic panels with a custom terra nova themed pattern which will be backlit red.

A BIG BIG thank you to specialtech

And to Lamptron

Firstly i give you the basic framework

Now where the grilled/meshed areas will be

rough design of the front panel. This is going to be hidden behind a flip down peice of mesh to conceal it all maintaining the clean simple look

the power supply mounts

worse than chinese instructions. actually this was to help me work out how much metal i need. the numbers like 609 are mm lengths.

Finally i present to you, a rough, basic image of what the Pillar will look like when completed

ok I admit I dint read the whole thing eyes getting tired will come back tomorrow and resume. But why on earth do you need/want 12 480mm rads??? imho this would be a tubing nightmare and the tubing will block access and visibility to the components you cant cool below ambient no matter how many rads/fans you put in.

I can understand you wanting a project that you can get completely lost in and that will be unique - but you have to ask yourself what is its ultimate purpose? To do it justice you will need some really high end gear, like an SR3 and Quad SLI etc - it will cost a fortune. Why not build say an external rad box with quick disconnects - then you can re-use it for future projects?

its perpouse is to house 2 systems which can run any hardware thrown in there under water cooling or air.

The Pillar Case is actually part of an interior room design as well, so its being built so when i move into a 2 bedroom apartment/house i can use the bottom section to stream media throughout the house and the top system for gaming/design work/video editing ect while in the workshop.

but the ultimate perpouse i guess is just to exist and have fun building it lol

I think we need to come up with a new word for this build, overkill is a major understatement. 24x 480mm rads is just throwghing money down the drain. 24 rads won’t cool any better than 3 at the most. The power consumption will be through the roof. Sorry I mean no offence fair play to you, but you could cool a stack server with what your about to build.

If you want to go overkill style and get real performance from it, why don't you use phase change cooling, your 24 rads will only cool to 1 or 2c above the room’s ambient temps. A phase unit or 2 will get you down to -40.

It looks like your putting alot of money in to this project, if i was you i would build an ivry bridge setup with 4 7970s (when they come out) that will be something worth talking about.

Good luck with your build.

thanks, im holding out to build an ivy bridge rig in the case once its done.

i will be honest, i've got some awesome sponsors so its not working out to expensive hardware wise

Lol I don't know why a lot of people are moaning this looks like a super fun project to be doing.

I'm looking forward to the updates!

Dude, if you've got that much money to use on these parts and rads etc, get a bloody new camera!

lol i will get a new camera as and when i can, spare cash is going into this build and its STILL taking like 8 months to do. but it'll get there

Interesting design

Is the case going to house one pc using the parts you've mentioned or multiple rigs like a server and a gaming rig?

Btw that's some good skills you have there with the metal mate

The progression of the build is awesome so far.

I'm definitely following this build, its going to be epic, keep up the good work and cant wait for more pics
