The Razer Tiamat

I will confes right off the bat that I know next to nothing about audio. And as a second disclaimer I do not want to hear any remarks about redundancy in a 7.1 audio headset, I know just enough about audio to know thatmy ears can tell the difference from front and back. With that out of the way on to the actual topic....

I read some where that the razer Tiamat will come with a built in sound card so you can just plug it into the on board audio. Is this true, and would the headset benefit from hooking it up to a more high end sound card?

And on a second note, I will also be looking to hooke up a surround sound system to my computer, can anyone recomend a PCIe sound card that supports 7.1 audio for this system even if I won't use it with the Tiamat?

Many thanks to this community, you guys have already helped me out with quite a few things

Does your motherboard support 5.1? If so, stick with that. 5.1 is enough and not all games seem to mix audio well enough to give a complete and true surround effect.

Just my opinion.

Headphones don't have built in sound cards, who ever said that either got that mixed with a built in amp (which it has), or is an idiot. Anything from ASUS Xonar above the DX series.

I hear it was located somewhere on the cord, not in the headset itself acting as an external sound card.

I am not seeing anything on the cord either that tells me it has a "sound card." What it will most likely have is a volume/mic on off on the cord, then plugs into the headphone amp, then you have jacks that plug into the back of the computer ie sound card. And the D2X is as good as you will get for sound cards.
