The Green Machine

Hey guys, what's up?

So I figured I'd post a little gallery of my rig. Now it wasn't all that crash-hot when it was built, and it certainly looks quaint next to some of the other stuff in the gallery, but the old girl's gotten me through some tough times!

I've had this in its current (more or less) configuration for about three years now. Geez, time flies, eh? This rig was my first real dabble into overclocking, and that was awesome. Scared myself more than once, but it's all part of the learning, right? Actually, come to think of it, currently it's all running at factory. I ought to fix that up.

This will probably be the last time it gets flaunted online, as my current plan is to build a whole new rig once I can find some steady employment. I've learned so much about building rigs that I'm ready to put into practice, even since I started browsing these forums. So, please be gentle, it's a shocker in some areas.

Anyway, specs in this bad boy:

Intel i7 Bloomfield 950
EVGA x58 Classified
Corsair XMS3 tri-channel DDR (man, wasn't triple channel the best? Anyone?)
EVGA GTX 460
Corsair Force GT 256 GB
WD 1TB
Thermaltake Litepower 700W PSU
Case is a Coolermaster HAF 932
Cooling is an XSPC Rasa waterblock, with an XSPC 240mm radiator and drivebay Res/pump combo (All bought as a kit when the stock cooler crapped out on me.)
Lights are 3x LED fans, 1x Bitspower cold cathode (used to be two, but one died), and an NZXT LED sleeve kit
Also some long dead 500GB Seagate HDDs that I really do need to take out.

Without further delay, some pictures!

Don't hossle the HAF

All screens turned on as mandated by internet law. Screens are a Wacom Cintiq 15" that I bought from Hong Kong. Hilariously low resolution, but I can draw on it. Main screen is broken as all hell, hence the Lego underneath it.
Keyboard is a Logitech G19. The little screen is awesome. Mouse is a Logitech G5 from at least eight years ago, love it. Cables 'round the back are messy as, and also foreshadowing.

Side of the case. In hindsight, I should've shown some restraint with the green lights. Also visible is the red EVGA logo that sits on the mobo heatsink. It beats like a heart.

Bay res. I personally think it looks the part, and haven't had any trouble with vibration noise that people seem to complain about with bay reservoirs.

Plain grey metal and green lights! Took the tool-less mounts off the top two bays for the reservoir. You can also see my stupid surplus HDDs.
The fan on the floor isn't plugged in, and the rat's nest above it is absolutely shocking, but the other side is so chockers I can only barely shut the door. Also seen here is my fatal1ty pro sound card. I'm a sucker for Johnathon Wendell.

NhhhjJb.jpg

Green lights off, nothing to see here.

OIhakoa.jpg

The spaghetti factory in front of my PSU. In a fair world, I'd be punished for this. Also in shot: my 24 pin plug short that can be used to run my pump. Also also in shot: dust. I swear that PCB is black underneath.

It throws a pretty incredible amount of light onto the walls and roof; this picture doesn't really do it justice. I love it to death.

Low-angle shot, getting artsy up ins. Normally I can't get a photo of the red heart lit up, but this time it was in every shot. I swear it really beats, I swear it.

Anyway, thanks for checking my rig out! Take it easy, guys.

This looks great man :) I don't know if you're looking for advice or not, but I'd probably change the red fan for a green one, unless you specifically like the contrast, but the main thing is I'd get a modular or semi-modular PSU and get your cables all nice :)

Coming along nicely but please sort those cables made me want to get all OCD on your rig for you get a fully moduler PSU please with some hand crafted cables of love :)

Red and green always remind me of christmas lights :(

I agree that you should change the front fan. I also agree that you should do better cable management and preferably even buy a new PSU. I would not be comfortable running my rig off that thing.

The hose could also have been a bit tidier.
I'm not going to lie mate, this is not a very epic build.

Good to hear/read that you're builing a new one (hopefully) soon though. Hope you'll improve on everything that's wrong with this and it'd be cool if you did a build log.

Anyway, welcome to the forum and I hope I wasn't too harsh on you ;)

PS: For someone who likes Jonathan Wendel so much, it would be nice to spell his name right :p

Thanks! Yeah, the red fan's just something I never really got around to, I agree it probably should've been changed. My next build I'll definitely go full on modular! This thing is a nightmare.

Haha preaching to the choir there. My case is where nice cabling goes to die, next time I'll put heaps more effort in.

Thanks for the welcome, glad to be here! Lol I think you were exactly the right amount of harsh; I know it's not epic at all. I really hope I get to start a new rig soon and build something actually worth looking at haha.

Also, I can't believe I got his name wrong! D=>

good build, but if i could offer advice, not trying to sound like a jerk, but i'd spend some time on a few small things.
1) change the front fan to a non-led or green led fan
2) please please please spend time on that wire management
3) maybe reverse the front and rear of the rad to make the tubing cleaner and shorter and not cross each other

Thanks man! All sound advice, and I hear you, but this is on its last legs anyway. I'm not going to bother fine-tuning this rig when once I find some work I'll be building a brand newy anyway.

Going modular with your next PSU will help out a LOT with the cabling in that thing. I took a look at one of these for a friend of mine once and it was God awful. Even AFTER I took the time to properly route around everything his lack of a modular power supply made it trying. NOT impossible, just trying.

I would also have to agree on general sentiment with the PSU. Between Thermaltake and OCZ I don't know which one is worse, quality wise (USING an OCZ I can attest to this).

Otherwise it'd just be a matter of updating the hardware and keeping everything cleaned up. I might also recommend getting rid of the mesh in the side panel and replacing it with another acrylic window. That may also help with the dust issue in your case, especially if you flip the rear fan to be intake and get a nice filter on it. The makings of greatness are here tho!
