Cheers guys!

Looking to get some tips putting together a new Haswell multi-purpose rig. Deets are as follows:
LOCATION: California
BUDGET: USD $2800-3000
MONITOR/KYBD/MOUSE: add onto above total
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64 (already acquired)
PRIMARY USAGE: F@H, gaming, disc burning
GAMING RES: 1920 x 1080
OVERCLOCKING: CPU only
FULL BUILD: yes
Now for the parts list. These were sourced (locally) from NewEgg:

  • CASE: Cooler master HAF XB - $89.99
  • MOBO: Gigabyte G1 Sniper 5 - $399.99
  • GPU: Asus GTX760 DC2 x4 - $1039.96
  • PSU: Cooler Master V1000 - $169.99
  • CPU: 4770K - $339.99
  • SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 128GB - $139.99
  • RAM: GSKILL Trident X 4x4GB 2666 - $299.99
  • ODD: LG BH14NS40 x2 - $199.98
  • COOLER: Kraken X60 - $107.99
  • TOTAL PRICE: $2787.87

I can't really go over 1000W load due to building power issues, it's the most my outlets will support without tripping breakers.

The four GPU's are primarily for folding along with the CPU, but will also be used for gaming in SLI. I'm hoping 1000W PSU is enough to power it all. These particular cards use just a single 8-pin and run around 170W.

My choice for motherboard rests on the need for high-end on-board audio, quad GPU support and the Killer NIC to prioritize streaming.

I'm using an existing 750GB 2.5" HDD for data. I also plan to add a 4TB HDD at a later time for backup duties.

The two Blu-ray burners are for disc copying/burning duties. They will be used heavily, and why I've purposed two of them.

I'll be using a LG 22EA63T 1080P IPS monitor, Corsair K70 keyboard, Logitech M570 trackball and a pair of Genius HF1800 speakers. These are being expensed separately.

Appreciate any and all feedback!

not a big fan of the case tbh, take a look at some fractal design, corsair or nzxt cases
also, get a corsair PSU, no coolermaster..

i don't know that much about folding, is getting 4 low end gpus really worth it compared to two higher end ones?

Thx 4 the feedback!

It was actually a tossup between this case and the Corsair 540. But I learned a while ago that some burners really don't like being run vertically, and can jam the eject mechanism if it's not mounted horizontal. Unfortunately, I need this to sit on a desk, so a tall tower case had to be ruled out. I will keep looking though.

Two 780's would offer the same CUDA cores as four 760's, and use less power, but it would also put me over budget by a good $300. Three 770's would also cost more and require more power. For the money, I don't think you can beat a 760 right now for PPD.

I might look into the HX1050 PSU, although a few bucks more buys me Enermax. I just need to watch the length and keep it at 180 mm.
