The ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q

Hey Guys,

So about to pick one of these up as I really want a 1440p display with G-Sync (I am a bit of Nvidia fanboy based on previous experience if i'm honest)

Is there anything I should be aware of before buying? New one coming out soon? Batches I should fear or anything like this

I looked at the Acer and while they look like a nice monitor I far prefer the aesthetics of the ASUS

Just get it from a decent Etailer. Just in case you do get any issues.

Ive seriously been considering 3 for Orca2 tbh

I love my swift, had it from release and not skipped a beat, no dead pixels, flickering etc, it gets used it pretty much every day aha

Don't be put off by other people's experience with them :)

As TTL said, get it from a decent Etailer just in case :) and if it's not right for you then there is other options out there :)

Cheers chaps! I shall get one on order then :D

I have a PG279Q and I love it! Even though there's been a lot of negative response to this screen (Overclock.net owners club), you shouldn't persuade yourself from trying it out. But then again if you can live without G-Sync the MG279Q is just as good a screen, yet much cheaper.

Some people these days expect an IPS screen with 144/165 Hz to be perfect, meaning absolutely no backlight bleed and white uniformity. But quite frankly it doesn't happen, and these screens more or less will have imperfections that are limited by panel technology. It's just about getting a panel quality that you can live with. Even Dell's UltraSharp IPS screens have these issues, and those are considered some of the best.

Yeah I currently own an older IIyama IPS and that has minor backbleed so I am expecting minor backlight bleed on an IPS with the added crazy tech. I think just some people have had quite severe cases .

I've ordered from Amazon (direct not market place) as they were going for the best price currently so reliable retailer

So received my monitor today and performance is lovely!!

HOWEVER

I do have some backlight bleed (expected due to IPS so not too bothered about this) and one dead pixel. Do I contact ASUS and get a new one ooor do I live with it?

A monitor this expensive with a dead pixel I don't think is on regardless of how small the pixel is. What do you guys think?

Give it a shot. When for the price I paid for my swifts I would expect no less than perfection. Of which I got on the first try :D

Id guess they are prob just going to brush you off though since its only 1

Yeah this is my thought. It's honestly a lovely monitor i'm very happy!

But as you say a dead pixel albeit one seems poor from such a high end product.

Oddly though the black pixel only shows up clearly against one of the reds and one of the blues during this test

Seems weird

I absolutely love mine too, just moving windows around on my PB278Q(2nd monitor) just feels so laggy now :D I dont know though whether or not the one ive got passes as a 'perfect panel', i dont have dust/dirt or dead pixel or anything but its the uniformity and maybe a slight back light bleed that i have. Honestly though, i done the test using this and looked for problems and i can honestly say that i cant see any or have any problems with mine.

Since you got it directly from Amazon as you said, i dont see a problem of returning it for a perfect one. IMO a slight, noticeable or not light bleed (depending on the person) can be livable but not dust/dirt behind the panel or even just one dead or stuck pixel.

EDIT: Just curious, what manufacturing date is yours? Usually says under where the I/O are located.

I have the TN version *PG278Q* and I went through around 6+ panels before I got 1 that didn't plain suck, I've had everything from -

  • Dead pixels
  • Stuck pixels
  • Screen turning on and off
  • Blurry screen
  • Flickering screen
  • 1 replacement I got from Asus was actually covered in dirt and stunk of smoke.

I ended up in the end just getting a refund and waiting a few months to buy a new 1 from a different batch, My current Swift is perfect thankfully.

I've tried the IPS version but I honestly couldn't tell the difference between them apart from the new glowing logo on the base so I'll be staying with the TN version until Asus bring out a 4K 120Hz G-Sync Swift.

Nice monitor but unlucky about the pixel - I'd swap it out while it's still in the 30 day period or whatever you guys get to refund/replace.
What made you go this particular one over the 4k version (just the current GPU horsepower required?) I know they're only about $100 difference so it would be an interesting choice. I do like the looks of both models but I'm putting my pennies towards the 34"

For me it was a step up coming from 1080 anyway and definitely a combination of gpu horsepower to run a 4K plus the fact that the 4K isn't super high refresh.

Have spoken to Amazon and they're sending me a next day replacement as a result of the dead pixel. Fingers crossed!!

If the dead pixel doesn't bother you, meaning you don't notice it at all in daily use I'd say just live with it. Else return it.

Edit: Seems I'm late to the game hehe. You already getting a replacement.

So chaps.

Replacement came today from Amazon (very speedy thanks Amazon)

No dead pixels and even the backlight bleed on this one is less not that it was bad on the last one.

If it's of any interest this one is from Jan16 and I looked at my last before I sent it back and that was Dec 2015 so I wonder if this is the true start of the improved panel quality control coming through

Looks like i've got a goodun!
