The ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q

Just bought this monitor, fortunately i don't have the worst of scenarios but neither its the best for $700 monitor you'd expect things to be top notch in quality.

It truly is an amazing monitor with the g-sync and high refresh rate. FPS gaming never felt better, even the color in this monitor is amazing. I bought this from thailand last week and i don't have any way to RMA this or don't even know whether RMAing this would even help.

This is just poor stuff by asus, i'm surprised by their quality control here. I'm not usually a brand freak but i knew when i bought stuff from ASUS it would be of top quality, this changes that.

Found a video on youtube which shows how screwed up the quality control for these monitors are https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mje_fmayu0k

I'll post a picture of my monitor with the lights out soon.

Just for those interested and this applies to all the swift monitors right now, including original P278Q TN panel Swifts

There seems to be faults with the power supply packs and their inability to hold 19v over time. Basically when you put your monitor in standby mode you will experience random moments of the monitor switching on by itself and the RoG logo being displayed.

This is the start of the monitors power supply failing. Eventually when your monitor goes into standby mode, it will lose all power and the only way to switch it on is to literally unplug it from the wall socket, wait 5sec and plug it back in in order for that jolt to power up the screen again.

ASUS refused to acknowledge this to me even when there is a post on their own RoG forums with many sharing same issue. Luckily for me my E-tailer is looking into pushing this through.

It's crazy how so many people have had issues with thier swift when I've had mine since release and I've not had one single issue, not one stuck or dead pixel. Makes me happy bur sad at the same time for those who haven't experienced the awesomeness of the swift.

Hey dude. Can you share the link to the ASUS thread where this is discussed. Cheers :)

That is why i have said i don't think the Swift is the best G-Sync mointor on the market cause too many people have had issues with them, The only reason why ASUS has sold as many as they have is cause it's ASUS.

I have not heard of as many people having issues with the Predator X34. Spec wise the X34 is better on paper.

Just be happy for it... For me, I got my PG278Q and after 2 weeks, dead pixel and all. And couldn't return it, since the 14 days return right had passed.

So was then stuck with it... Fortunately, I put it away in my ally for few months. Then took it out again and the dead pixel was alive again.

Although, I've noticed flickering a lot...

From all of this, a brand so well known as ASUS and the cost of the damn thing, you'd expect it to be near perfect. I've lost respect for ASUS in the monitor market all togheter. Will never buy an ASUS monitor again.

So be happy dude, that you won the lottery ;)

I've emailed them saying I would like a replacement before that happens.

More insult to injury.

my E-tailer said ASUS were not keen on assisting the fault. So the E-tailer has done their best to sort my problem.

Basically, they are returning my monitor and have given me a laptop adapter with the same specifications, along with the faulty ASUS adapter. If this doesnt fix the fault, they are willing to give me a refund.. after having the monitor for 2 years.

While the Monitor is by far the best I have had, that refund is very tempting right now.

Frankly sometimes I feel like ASUS should be renamed to something similar you're sitting on. Still has an A and S in the name, it's 4 letters (if you count the english version of the word), nobody would be confused about it :D

Alright fun aside, I have the PG279Q but I've got no issues so far. I've disabled 'deep sleep' in the screen though, as it for some reason was tossing my icons around on the desktop when it woke up again. I also disabled the red logo. But nevertheless this is valuable information and I will keep it in mind.

On a positive note. At least they confirm that you can use a simple laptop adaptor to power it.

Oh in that case, I have even more respect for the E tailer since they gave it to me, along with my old one.

Aye, annoyingly the 'official', lower rated brick that was supposed to power the laptop, was about twice the price.. :( Glad I found an alternative.

I have had mine for a couple of months now and I'm happy, no issues as of yet. Its a shame that quality control on these seem to be somewhat hit & miss for some people. Not that that's unique to Asus.

Well the ASUS laptop power cable i was given seems to be holding strong so far. So fingers crossed it will last me right through now.
