The Antique Rig

Too bad you aren't closer, id gladly just give these to you.
They have been sitting in my closet for like at least two years. They were overclocking BEAST (back in the day)

Hrm, I wonder what shipping would cost me.

Hi everyone !

Reading through this thread I realized i was in the same situation as you are a couple years ago. I built my first computer in January 2013, upgrading from a PC built in 2003. My life story is pretty much the same as yours. I'm 17 now and finally got my first decent gaming PC. I didn't know much about hardware back then, and built my rig from pocket money I got from working at McDonalds.

Here are the specs :

i7 3770K OC'ed @ 4.4GHz
CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler
(Scythe Gentle Typhoon AP-14 Push-Pull)
Asrock z77 Extreme 4 Motherboard
AMD Radeon 7870 GHz Edition (Sapphire)
Kingston HyperX 8gb RAM
CoolerMaster HAF 912 Case

You can also notice this is pretty unbalanced with the 3770k with a 7870 and budget stuff for every other component. If i could suggest anything for your future PC, it yould be to get an Athlon x4 750K for your CPU and a Radeon 7870 for you GPU. If you have a bit more money i would suggest an i5 4670K and a 760, as these can run every game out now at pretty decent settings.

Cheers

-Tyonar

wuat.
a 760 is barely an upgrade over the 7870 and nobody should buy an athlon CPU. if you can't afford a 4670k you get an i3 or an APU + amd gpu combination. i'd rather have an i3 and a 770 than a 4670k and a 760.

The athlon 750k is the top of the range apu without the gpu bit. Its better then bulldozer cpus at single threaded stuff and as fast as a fx4300 for the fraction of the price. Honestly its excellent value for money considering its cheaper then any of the i3s/fx4300.
-edit- I guess he had the non tahiti 7870 as thats a bit slower than the 760.

I haven't tested the fx4300 but if it's anything like the fx4100 i cannot recommend it to anyone with a good conscience. APUs i can only recommend because of the GPU bit, without it the CPUs aren't all that great.
If however that CPU isn't as terribad as the FX-4100 then i retract my statement, i keep my standpoint on the 4670k + 760 though.

the 4300 has quite a bit more single threaded performance compared to the 4100. I had a 750k when I needed a cheap build for a LAN-thing far from home. It surprised me how capable it is. Overclocking wise its pretty decent as well.

The 4100 overclocked quite well despite the horrible conditions as well. AMD make some nice stuff for overclocking which doesn't hurt your wallet if it breaks.

The job interview didn't work out, they did really like me, but they want people who can work every day from 3PM to 6PM, and I still have to attend school :/
Well, let's continue the search! If I can't find anything, I can always start brewing moonshine!

(Yeah, I've been watching Discovery Channel a lot lately and I am kidding :p)

Hi hope life is better a year on and in the end its u who will have the best life more than the ones who bullied u , dont know if u still have this comp but i hope it was good to build :)

Hey guys! So, quite a few things have happened when I was gone!

First of all, I passed this year, so I'll do my exams next year! I passed with quite good grades, so I won't have to work my ass of to try and fix everything next year!

Second, I got a writing position at INVDR.net, quite a big gaming-site in the Benelux. I'm very happy with this, as I can add this to my CV. I just started on monday as a newsposter, but the longer I'll write there, the more opportunities I'll get (review-copies, events etc.)!

At last, no new rig yet... Why? I'm waiting to get a laptop. A LAPTOP?! Yes, a laptop. When I'm (hopefully) going to study journalism or Media, Information and Communication, I'll need a laptop. "Why are you waiting then? Get one now!". Well, every school requires a different laptop. One needs a basic laptop, while the other one needs a Macbook (Pro). I don't want to get a basic laptop to do use for school and do some gaming on now, just to find out I'll need to buy a Macbook Pro for my study.

I hope everything's fine here too! I've been very busy with school, but my vacation has started, so I can finally relax again. I'll be more active the coming weeks ;)

Thanks mate! My life is great atm! I have quite a few good friends now, and I'm not getting bullied whatsoever :)

Got a question :
That Sempron is basicly a Athlon XP (ie. no SSE2/NX/VT/AVX/FMA, etc.).

So how is it running Internet 2014 AD ?

Thanks guys! ;)

I'm guessing you'll dual boot that macbook pro if you get it?

You bet! I've had to use OSX with IT-class, and I hate it.

It runs fine actually! Google Chrome won't receive any new updates, but lag-wise it's more than do-able. YouTube is another thing, but I have my PS3 for that ;)

Hey, compared to my first rig, this is a super-computer

Here are the specs of the first PC I had... mum n dad paid just under £1000 for it:

386SX-16 at 16mhz (jumper mod to make it 20mhz!!! )
1mb RAM (that I upgraded to 4mb for a cost of £215)
3.5" and 5.25" floppy drives
42mb hard disc
14" goldfish bowl monitor
Graphics card with 128k memory. 16 colours at 640x480 res. If you wanted more colours you had to drop the res!
Canon Bubblejet 10 printer. You had to feed a sheet at a time and it took forever but the print quality was excellent

And on this system, that probably had less power than most modern car stereos, I could:

Word process all my homework and make it look good - got me through my GCSEs and A-levels
Run corel-draw
Run loads of different DOS games - Xenon2, Lemmings, Commander Keen etc...

We now have PCs with a million jiggaherts and terabytes etc. but what we do on em hasn't changed much :)
