Temperatures

It`s getting to be that time of year again. Temp temp and more temp. It`s hotter b4 u even turn anything on >.<

I`m going to be running everthing as-is for the next 2 weeks, 4 pcs, monitors, tv - turn absolutely everything off b4 I go on holiday (something I don`t normally do) then when I get back, I`m going down to 3 pcs (1 being a new quad to theoretically take the place of 2 duals, we`ll see how that goes, going to involve some juggling of kit if Abit come up with the goods), and looking to cut down on power.

Basic fact of the matter is, the more power = the more heat.

Gonna be pulling sound cards, scaling drives, changing out fans, losing some i/o cards and probably some physx - even looked at an air conditioner that sounded pretty good for sub £200 (one I got atm is a crock and noisey).

Anyone else about to make some decisions due to heat ? For me, it isn`t the kit, I`m pretty darn sure it can cope with the temps, it`s just the feeling in the computer room I`m looking to calm. It`s not nice busting the door open and it`s 2000 degrees!

.. of course, around October I`ll look to bust-a-nut again !! lol

Heheh I got my self a USB desk fan, open the window a little and it's nice and coool :)

My watercooling can handle probably anything upto 35-40C before I get temp rises.

Try setting your fans up a bit higher to keep things cooler, which in turn should help keep the air circulating in the room as well.

Try power saving modes to like underclocking the GFX card when in 2D mode. and getting the HDDs to spin down after 10-15 mins. These all help I find.

Meet you in the beer garden if you wanna chill off :beerchug: :D

My room at uni faces the sun all day. I'm not sure what direction it really faces, but it gets hot in the morning and stays hot all day. I can't do anything besides sleep. Doesn't help when I'm supposed to be revising..

'Puter seems to be fine with it, get idle temps on the cpu near 45 but I never get 40 at load in the winter!

It'll be gone before we know it though. Oh wait. It is actually raining. :)

Well, the heat took an unexpected jump here over the last day.

I`ve taken an amdx2 pc down. Shifted it`s work and drives to another amdx2 - and it failed overnight, temp went well above 60 - to what I don`t know. Oc taken right off it until the folding wu is finished, then I`ll find a fine line between oc and wu-cpu usage.

Game pc was failing wus - problem here the ix38 doesn`t read the temps of x9650 so I can`t auto-anything, just dropped it to 50% fold usage. Amps and pwm temps were esculating also, and I`m not going there again.

Gonna need to do some serious work on these setups sometime.

I feel your pain rast.. a quad, a dual and a zeon... 9800GX2(constant 55oC) = HOT ROOM!

I hate the feeling of walking in after having all the doors closed and BAM, hit in the face by a heat wave.

Hot hot hot. :(

pc...ps3....heavily insulated room = windows always fully open, fan on full and me complaining :)

even got to the point i have to choose between ps3 folding or pc torrenting :(

im lookin for a powerful usb fan - any clues? :D

Well fortunatly this isnt so much of a problem for me last year, for some reason 1 under powered PC seems to make my room a sauna, now I have the "server" (old X2 rig cobbled together) which is fairly well cooled, the main quad but it naps at night, and the windows consantly wide open... keeps things in check, about 26-24oC which is just low enough to get a good nights kip.
