Preamble

Hey guys, I've finally had with my old laptop, a 2Ghz Intel Pentium T3200 from yesteryear (See current CPUZ Specs attached and my current setup). I stupidly though i would be able to attached a 3TB Seagate hard drive via Sata/USB but as you may expect my laptop can only recognise 746Gb so i'm SOL. These turn of events have lead me to fulfill my dream of having a powerful PC at long last.

Purpose

I am not a gamer in any sense of the word, it’s just not my thing. What is however is multitasking. I am a history teacher and preparing PowerPoint’s and lesson plans is just so much easier on a multi monitor setup, I current own two 24” but hoping to go to three by the end of summer. I would like to start video editing as my wife and I want to start travelling together so I a video camera (Panasonic SD90 or SD900) will be purchased. I would like the 3770k to help be blitz through Adobe Premier. I will be running Window 7 as my main OS but I shall through in some old 2.5” Laptop hard drives into the rig so I may have a disk dedicated to Linux and Dualboot. (Maybe even TriBoot making this a Hackintosh somewhere down the line).

But in short this Rig will be used for Lesson Planning / Multitasking / watching HD videos and eventually video editing.

The New Build

The Rig will be as follows;
Now that took the best part of 10 minutes to copy and paste but I wanted to be thorough. Do you have any concerns over the components, in particular the RAM?

Thanks for looking this over, I will be buying the parts over the weekend so any suggestions or recommended alterations will be welcome.

Enjoy the Bank Holiday Weekend folks!

no need for 3 .. unless your setting up wallstreet in your house it seems cool at first but 2 is enough focus on the hardware that's gonna be going into the pc

I would say that if you are not a gamer then you could probably get away with a 500W or even 430W PSU. Aria are a good company, I buy from them regularly, in fact if you have more than 50 posts and registered for more than 28 days - you can get free delivery. If you do decide to go for 3 monitors, then you can pick up a low end AMD card that supports eyefinity.

As an alternative to your mobo choice you might want to have a look at the Asus p8z77-v deluxe http://www.dabs.com/products/asus-p8z77-v-deluxe-s1155-intel-z77-ddr3-atx-80TY.html?refs=4294943314&src=3 (try code april10 as this might get you £10 off) and when it comes to ram i would suggest 16GB as you have plans for vid editing take a look at crucial BLS2CP8G3D1609DS1S00CEU ram, hope this is of some help to you

and i would also suggest window 7 64 bit if you are going to use more than 8GB of ram

Don't use the site you have linked for the motherboard as it looks "suspect" to me and I am sure others would agree. As sheroo above has suggested Aria generally have the best prices and with the free delivery it is a solid place to buy from.

Hope you like it, i will be installing the wifi card and fan controller this weekend and hopefully buying either the h60 or nhd14 cooler by the end of the month

I've just thrown in the R3 fan controller, i am too ashamed to post the pic of how untidy the inside of the rig looks now. However running the system fans on quite now, much better.
