Although I wasn't too pleased when my dad said we were going on talk talk, there wasn't much I could do because their free international calls save my dad a fortune.

Anyway, after months of complaints and general dissatisfaction with only getting 2mb instead of the promised 8, they agreed to stop charging us for the service (so we have free broadband, but still pay line rental and phone charges etc).

Anyway, I decided to have another go at complaining (we've been with them a year now) and they said they still couldnt do anything... Then out of the blue, 2 days ago, they rang to say they found the fault, and that they are sorry for the inconvinienve, and that I am now on 6mb (max my line can handle).

For free broadband, its super fast, and Im really liking it now

Moral of the story : talk talk are cheap, and be prepared to complain to get your way, but you do pay very little for fast broadband

Nice one on the free broadband! I had problems with my Virgin cable connection a while ago, and because of this I threatened to go with BT unless they could offer me an incentive to stay. We have one of the TV, phone and internet packages and they offered us it all half price for 18 months if we stayed with them. Like your dad found, ISP's will sometimes do very generous deals to keep your custom, and it's worth calling them to see what sort of deal you can get with them. With the wider choice of ISP's nowdays, the customer can throw some weight around now, whereas before, the ISP's had an easy ride

Indeed, when moving into this place we had so much trouble getting Virgin. We had to get them to rewire a lot of the box and under the ground, a lot of hassle for nothing really. Some stupid engineer before had taken the lead from this property and taken it next door, saving him the job of making a new one.

Got it done in 2 days, a lot of work and mess, all done now then.

My first broadband provider was talktalk

Started off ok

Then they started blocking all p2p

Then throttled like all downloads

You would think i downloaded a lot...I couldnt..it took forever just to download a 5mb file depending if they were traffic shaping or not

I was disgusted at the service especially the fact that it was going down on a weekly occurance..usually dropping off during the day whilst gaming too

I complained and couldnt migrate due to the year contract. So i rang up again...as my line was offline for almost a week...premium rate number...10 minutes just to get to the right man in india. He started troubleshooting and of course it must be my pc config. I got disconnecte from the line

Had to ring up again, repeat the above conversation again to a new bloke, did the same steps and did some more messing. Got disconnected again. Got put in another queue....

This went on for another hour at least..the another bloke finally did a line check.oh a fault on the line =/

They said they would ring me back...waited 4 hours then had to ring myself...costing me more so about 2 hours on a premium line. Turns out it could have been sorted with a line test which is one of the first steps my current ISP (idnet) do straight away (free line too anyway)

Needless to say this problem was sorted in a few days..but it was still slow and dropping out all the time.

The day I could migrate I did (to idnet) and have never looked back. But oh yeh, 5 months after migrating they wrote to us saying we owed them 5 months worth of costs and were threatening legal action. We wrote back to the head guy and he wrote back apologising. Fair enough..but then we got another letter giving us a final warning so we rang up (premium line) and the woman insisted we were stil using their service. CLUELESS!!! So i explained to her that we migrated and it was impossible to migrate using the mac code THEY gave us and use another isp. So she said fair enough we will write off all costs if we could send evidence.

Idnet kindly sent them a letter and I didnt have to do a thing. Talktalk dropped charges and apparently it was a administrative error

MY verdict..avoid them like the plague. Anyone will be better than them in my experience
