Ok as the thread suggests is the 3200 64 bit amd anygood is this a good swap or not advise would be good also whats a good mobo for the amd???:o

Hmmm you don't think I would gain more from 64 bit which would be worth more to sell or trade???:D

My mumma said life was like a box of chocolate !!!

Yes I am a bit simple

If going amd64 i would go for socket939 however there aren't a great deal of good mobos ready yet soI would wait a bit. A64 is a good move though IMO

cheers just i was offered a 3200 64 for a p4 3 so dunno yet dont have either mobo might just get it to trade???

Take the trade, i doubt you'l regret it.

Its most likely to beat the 3Dmark scores of the 3Gb off the shelf, and in my opinion (compared to my mates 2.8 @ 3.4 runs a LOT faster.

Your choice but I havn't looked back since I got mine.

Cheers boardy the guy says it does 2300 so??? I mean my old barton did 2800 and the p4 should be good for 4gig????

whats a good mobo then ???

nforce 3 or via 800 ??

I have an Asus K8V which is a Via chipset board, I have yet to find the max for this system as I'm taking it slow so as not to hurt it in any way, the 300Mhz difference between stock and 2300 is very amazing. Mines at 2200 atm and it's so fast its silly :) .

I've heard some horror stories about the nForce3 250 chipsets and the 150s dont support the full HT of the CPU. I would say go for a Via 800 chipset board and upgrade when the new ones mature a little and more become available with better reviews.

The Asus board I have is great and seems to have a fair amount of clocking options on it. Have a look around, the Abit MAX board is good also but has an issue with Corsair RAM so that's the only thing that put me off it really.

Cheers the mobo im getting with the cpu is the kv8 delux jobie but the amd is the 2200 512cache one not the 2000 1meg cache so?? dunno hope it does the job

Not that I've noticed mate. I havn't updated the BIOS yet as I have a Multiplay i event to go to tomoz so I don't want to mess it up with under 12 hours to go lol.

got my AMD 64bit today, its a work computer but bought just for me :P

I was given £1500 so i chose the components i wnated, tho i decided not to abuse this and i bought the best combo, an AMD64 3000, 1 gig of Geil Value PC 3200 and an asus mobo (cant remember which, about mid range)

What i think of it:

Its a nice machine, it runs rather like my P4 in windows, much smoother than my other Athlon XPs.

I expected it to be a good bencher, i downloaded and installed aquamark and , also Powerstrip.

My CPU wasnt overclocked, so stock 2000mhz, i clocked my Saphire 9800Pro @ 435/380 (first settings i used) this is 20mhz faster than i run on my 9800Pro (damn retail ATI chips, shud of got the saphire)

Anyway, the AMD 64 scored a reasonable 45k, not as much as I was expecting, compared to my P4 currently running at 3.6 ghz, the ram running at 192 FSB and the gfx card @ 435/360 i score 48k.

Surely the 3k loss in creds cant be down to no dual channel on the 64bit? I think perhaps the A64's have been overated maybe? but thats just my opinion. They are definately an improvement over XPs, windows is now much nicer to use, but benchmarking on a 32bit O/S, my P4 kills it, even with all the crappy dividers im running at the moment.

I never had probs with my XP's running windows I found the P4's that I had to be a hell of a lot slower?? I guess I didn't have an 800fsb P4 it was a 533 but on my p4 3gig my xp2800 would load and run programs faster than it when the p4 machine had no programs loaded so????

I am still awaiting the arrival of my parts should be here tomorrow and going to order my case today (cheers Phil) and rebuilding on thurs night I just hope all goes smoothly and I dont get the blaster worm again as soon as I connect to the internet ffs loool
