Hello guys,

I have a amd fx 8320 right now and i can pickup a 975 really cheap. But the question is, is it worth the upgrade? I usually use it for desktop tasks and sometimes for games. The mobo that i want to use with it is a gigabyte x58-ud7 rev 2 and 12 gigs of kingston hyper x.
Should i do this or should i keep the 8320?

Greetings, Paul

paul,
id pass... even if you had all the other support equipment in hand already its a
lateral if not slight downgrade. stock for stock, the 975 edges in most perf catagories
by mere single, if not decimal percentages. but in overclock, the FX moves alot
back to its camp...

So its not a good deal?
He also offered me this:
I trade my stuff for his stuff.

my stuff:
AMD FX-8320
Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3
8GB GEiL Black Dragon 1600mhz

His Stuff:
Intel Core i7 975 Extreme
Gigabyte GA-x58A-ud7 rev 2
12GB Kingston Hyper X 1600mhz

is that i better deal or should i just pass?

I'd pass, socket 1366 isn't worth it imo.

Your hardware wouldn't really get much better performance-wise, but because yours is quite a bit newer it might actually have a higher resale value in case you do want to upgrade.

Agreed with Savage

Yeah no point there really. A 970 or 990X is only roughly the same as a 2600K or 2700K.

Id agree with the boys and say you should be thinking 1155 with an i7 or waiting for Haswell.
