Surround (5760x1080) or Single 1440p?

Every time I ask you guys a question, a new variable pops up and I end up bloody conflicted. Argh.

Okay, so I'm building a new PC in the New Year. It's going to run anything (talking SLI 780Ti's or Crossfire 290X's).

At the moment, I use 3840x1080. I love having my second screen for productivity. So, the obvious next step up is to add a third 1080p monitor and give surround gaming a shot.

So I've been planning my next build with this in mind, and I was just recommended to go 2560x1440p instead. I get it, higher pixel density backed into a similar sized screen = glorious.

But I need opinions and experienced users to lend me your knowledge. Which should I do?

Add the third monitor. 5760x1080 (60Hz) surround gaming. Bezels can be annoying, but to be fair I've been staring at one in the middle of my setup without any problems.

OR

Sell both, get a 2560x1440. But, what's worth more? The bump in quality and performance, or surround gaming and the easy workflow offered by more than one monitor?

Help

Could have kept this in your other thread:p

If you read my last post in your previous thread i suggested a 1440p monitor and selling your current 2 1080p screens to buy another 1440p monitor. Again can not get 1440p to do 120hz. That is strictly 120hz @ 1080p.

Imo the 1440p looks better and its IPS alone makes it worth getting.

Yeah I didn't want to send it off topic though :p Yeah edited 120Hz out. Thanks for clarifying.

I use three 1080 monitors and love it, I play BF4 @ 5760x1080 mostly on high and I have to say I won't go back to a single monitor again there is so MUCH you miss playing on one monitor, I can see guy's in my peripheral vision before they shoot me that I would normally not see with one monitor, it takes about a week to get used to it as you just look at the center monitor not the outside two and once you have done it you won't go back!

All these conflicting ideas. i think I'm going to go 1440p simply because I really don't have much desk space. I can't fit 3x22inch monitors with gentle angles, they'd have to be really harsh angles and end up being bad for anything other than racing I think.

In an ideal world I'll go 5760x1080 with a 1440p monitor wall-mounted above it, but there's no rush for perfection! So, what's the best 1440p on the market?

My monitors over hang my desk as they are 23" but if you use a monitor stand instead of individual stands what does it matter?

No not quiet as good as 2x1440 screens but still an epic screen I saw a vid of it on you tube of someone gaming on it and they recon it's pretty epic but ultimately the decision is yours to make

Yeah. I think I need to stick towards two monitors, it's great for organising workflow, especially if I'm recording something and want capture tools open on the second screen. Thanks for your help. What are the best IPS 1440p monitor brands atm?

Probably the Asus still or maybe a Dell, Also you can split the 29" into two monitors as well for work flow have a quick look on youtube first before you make up your mind then if you still don't like the idea of it look hard at 2x1440's then

21:9 is not supported by all games though. It will be a hit and miss. If games do not support it then it drops down to 16:9 at 1080p.

Keep in mind 21:9 being split in half is far less than 1080p.. almost half of 1080p(pixel count wise).

Edit: Qnix, Crossover.Yamakasi, and Achieva are all korean brands.. much cheaper but quality will not be that noticable of a difference.

I did all this earlier in the year when I decided to ditch my 3x 21.5" TN's. Everyone on here talked me into going 1440p and i'd just had two GTX780's turn up so I went out and bought the Dell. I've had quite a bit of high end Dell stuff and never been disappointed so perhaps I didn't give the Asus fair consideration (i think it has some backlight issues?). I saw Dell's 30" 21:9 screen but thought it would be terrible for some games, TV, especially old 4:3 TV and a lot of movies and my PS3.... so basically a bit useless for me. I have a thing about 16:9 too, everything has to be 16:9 even phones.

I can report that the Dell U2713HM is great. Colours are fantastic, the backlight is super even and of course the resolution! I haven't encountered any flickering issues but it definitely does have some burn in, it's not problematic and it's not like an old plasma. It's most noticeable if you watch youtube or something with perfect white background and content on and then go on something with a solid colour like the OC3D site and you can see some ghosting of youtube down each side. In moving or varied images I haven't found it to be noticeable it just stands out slightly on solid colours. I hope its helpful to you to know this and I personally don't regret nor would I encourage people to avoid the dell only for this reason but if your going to look for it and detest it maybe the Asus is a good alternative.

Thanks for the post. So you decided to give up the triple monitor. Are you happy with that decision?
