Superclocked cards

This is just a simple question. I do not know if it is just my luck or what but are pre-superclocked cards such as those EVGA makes better overclockers? Every pre-superclocked card I have ever owned going back to the 4xxx series of ATi and 9000 even 8000 series of Nvidia the Superclocked cards I have had ALWAYS overclocked better than the ones my brother got which were the regular versions cards. Is it just dumb luck or is that supposed to be the case?

nope there just better binned cards so have more of a potential for overclocking. My 570 was a beast so it leads me to believe the down clocked them (non sc's) a tad to give more headroom for clocking

Indeed the OC editions of GPU's tend to be cherry picked by Nvidia / AMD and then they Supply places like Gigabyte, EVGA, Asus so on and so fourth to use them in there Custom cooled OC designs. They then overclock to a decent respectable percentage increase over stock GPU's that they know all there OC GPU's will 99% of the time work. But some of the GPU's are still better then other's and its luck of the draw how much further you can push you GPU to what you consider a stable overclock.

(none of the above is 100% true it is all guess work on my opinion of how it comes to be.)

One think i want to say at this time.

The GeForce GTX 570 is the latest high-end graphics chip from NVIDIA, and EVGA has released an overclocked model called “Superclocked” or simply “SC” that costs USD 20 more than the standard GeForce GTX 570. At USD 370, the EVGA GeForce GTX 570 Superclocked competes directly with the new Radeon HD 6970, which comes with the same price tag.

Personally, I'm not a find fan of factory overclocked cards. Why pay for an overclock? To me that defeats the point of it.

It could quite possible be because they increase the voltage and generally have better coolers.

They are binned like people have said so that increases the probability that you will get a good overclocker but also some have had various changes to the PCB to increase stability at higher clocks/voltages. The gigabyte SOC cards for example are completely different to the reference PCB.

Pre overclocked cards are cherry picked cards. Most of the case I have very little luck in Overclocking a non preoverclocked card. All the preoverclocked cards I have ha always OCed better than the non preclocked cards.
