Stupid question

hi all i know this might sound like a stupid question but i got to ask

ok here is the thing, im upgrading my computer in a few weeks and im umming and arghing about the asus striker i wanted to know if i could use my SLi gfx cards on any mobo (aslong as it has 2 x pci express ports)?

You can only use your sli cards on sli certified N-vidia chipset motherboards - 780i/680i and 650i chipsets.

Nope. You need an Nvidia based board.

Pre-8 series you could have used hacked drivers and a 975 board, but not for 8s as nvidia locked em or something.

ok has anybody heard any bad things about the asus stiker extreme?

i plan to use a Q6600 with the mainboard aswell as 2 x 7900 GTX's(i plan to upgrade to 8800's when the 9 series arrives on the market)

anyone heard anything bad? bad things about it are all over the place. I just sold myn it was that bad!!!

well it was ok, but dont expect any overclock on that quad core, unless you want to water cool the motherboard and up the volts to nb etc etc..

Nope.

How about a Striker II? We shud be getting one in for review this week so I can't comment on what its like just yet...but anything has gotta be better than the Striker, right tek? :s

I hope it can overclock a quad further than 3Ghz.

the review will go on the homepage- pretty hard to miss.....

I sure hope its better than the striker.

The striker could get a 450fsb with quads, but volts were outrageous and you had to water cool everything on the mobo, making an expensive motherboard cost even more.

All in all, bad experience. much happier on my maximus
