Strange Problem...or is it a problem?

I hope i'm putting this in the right place and if not it will get moved to the right place, Thanks.

I'm having a weird problem that i cant seem to solve,

System Details:

MB: Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6 (rev A2) (bios F7)

CPU: Intel Q6700

RAM: Corsair TWIN2X4096-8500C5

I have set the bios to the correct multiplier, 10x, and CPUZ reports the same (bus speed, 266.x, rated fsb 1066.x) but the multiplier keeps jumping from 6x to 10x according to load, which appears to be pretty random. Easytune, which is the Gigabyte OC/Sytem Utils software also show the jump in CPU speed from 1600 to 2660. I've looked in the bios and cant seem to find any cpu power/throttling option so i'm a bit stumped. Also i'm not sure the memory is reporting correctly, but you'll see in the screen shots.

I've included shots of what CPUZ is reporting but if you need any further info please let me know.

Look for anything in the bios called speedstep and eist disable them and it should be fine.

I found the offending setting in bios, a real 'wood for the trees' one that, lol, but CPUZ is still reporting the 6x multiplier??? EasyTune is reporting it incorectly. CPU TrueSpeed 1.6 reports the correct speed, Intel Processor ID Utility reports the correct cores speed.

Should i just ignore CPUZ....

run a superpi 1m and if your score is about right for the speed (google to find what ~speed = what ~time).

If its slow then you still got a problem. Are you running vista? That has gimpy power save options too.

C1E off in the bios to.

well Superpi took 19.3 (average) which according to (http://www.overclock.net/benchmarking-software-discussion/55790-official-superpi-1m-top-times.html) would seem OK but CPUZ did show the jump in multiplier to 10x when under load. I'm gonna check the 'C1E' setting but cant see any reference to it yet.

I'm running XP64.

Found the 'C1E' setting and set it to disabled, all seems OK now.
