Hey Guys,

Does anyone know how you backup your saved games files and where they are kept, so that you don't have to start the game from scratch if you have to reinstall your PC, many times I have completed COD MW2 and for some reason had to reinstall windows, when I have reinstall steam I have to start the game from scratch, is there a way to backup your save game file, so you can restore them, and go back to the game where you left it. its a PITA starting game from scratch.

Cheers

Hay

there is a way to back up files yes

right click on MW2 and click backup game, then save it to were ever, then install it again from the backup

When I wipe a machine I back up my whole steam folder so I don't have to download it all again. That seems to move the save games as well.

When you reinstall steam, just point it to the backed up folder.

ProgramFiles/Steam/SteamApps/common/ModernWarfare 2/Players/Save

What I got from Google

You have to rar up the Players folder for it to work, as just backing the Save folder up won't work.

I right click on MW2 and selected backup, and saving to all now, don't know if it will save my mission saves aswell....... anyone know?

So backing up the entire steam folder would do the same thing and save you time re-downloading the games. I don't have my steam folder in Program Files though, it's on a different drive. The damn thing won't fit on my 80GB SSD.

I don't know about Raring anything. I just copy the entire folder to the new install or PC, and point the steam installer to that same directory. It will pick up all the games you have installed.

thanks guys, if you copy the whole steam folder, do you have to install the games??

Nope.

Not sure, but backing up the folder manually is all you should need to do. That's all I've ever done.

Thanks will copy the steam folder "C:\program files(x86)\steam" thats the folder right???

Blimey 63GB's LOL (gunna take awhile)

Judging from the size, that sounds right. You should have the steam.exe file in there along with a few folders including steamapps among others.

Only some games have save game files in My Documents like Dirt 2 and Borderlands. (Probably because they are GFWL)
