Standby/Sleep On Boot

Hi Guys

A friend of mine has recently bought a new 21" widescreen monitor running at a native 1080p resolution. Each time the computer boots the screen goes onto sleep/standby after about 5 minutes.

The old monitor on a much lower resolution works fine. His PC is a generic jobby by a company such as HP or Dell and he has recently installed a radeon 6600 low power video card (draws all of its power from the board).

Im just wondering if anybody could confirm that the problem may be a weak PSU as this is likely to only be 300 or 400watts. I have tried everything with it and it even powers off after starting in safe mode, could it literally be that the PC is shutting dwon the video card due to not being able to supply enough power to display 1080p?

Thanks Guys

Have you checked the power options in the control panel? There might be something in there causing the issue.

Try turning the Link State Power Management off under PCI Express in the advances power settings.

EDIT: Here's a screenshot to help:

Ok we have just tried with that setting turned off an the same thing has happened, he also mentioned that the fans on his PC seemed to spin up, could this possibly be a heat related issue?

The full spec is as follows:

Dual Core Pentium 3.3ghz (id assume an i3)
4gb RAM
Radeon 6600

The PSU is as of yet unknown ill get him to identify it tomorrow!
