My dads after a small laptop for on the road, for displaying powerpoint and checking emails.

I recommended a notebook (Sammy NC10) and thought it would be a good idea to SSD it..

do people think its a bad idea/waste of money?

Good point:

Faster Loads,

Longer battery life,

Wont get damaged if it gets dropped etc.

Thanks

Personally ofc, I feel u'll be ok checking mail on them, viewing webpages as a gimmick. (Netbook that is, u mention Notebook in ur post which is an old term for a laptop)

Showing Powerpoint... if u can get one that exports to a bigger screen.

They seem to give me the impression that if u drop them they'd shatter, especially the keyboard/case.

For the good points, a good phone would do those. Whereas where they fail for me, a good laptop can pickup the slack.

He just needs something with a medium sized screen, for showing clients information etc and something he can check emails and go on the web with..

He has an Iphone, but he finds it too small and fiddly to do any length of typing.

i've got the asus 1000 and my dad has the samsung one. My asus came with built in ssd, but its a crappy one. I think 99% of netbooks come with a vga out for hooking up to a projector. Just installed 10 of them into a school today.

SSD will certainly speed things up if you go for a decent spec'd one. But you'll have to pay a fair bit for one though.

Bit of a waste IMO, you will probs end up paying the same for the SSD as you did for the netbook itself.

If you really want to spend the money, go look at the 12" laptops

I've got a 60gb Core V2 which I picked up second hand for £90 on the way, Which I would sell onto my dad for the same cost...

The drive is similar in performance to raptors, so would certainly speed it up :)
