SSD for non gaming laptop

I'm looking to get an SSD for my old dell studio 1555. Just want it to be a bit snappier at startup and general use. Looking at 240GB drives on the basis that it's the only drive in there and I don't want to be plugging in an external HDD just to listen to my music. Sometimes I'll play games, but not often so I don't need a superb performing one.

Are 240/256gb drives in the £200 to £250 category worth buying, or are they too cheap (translation: unreliable)? Am I foolish to want a larger drive for long term storage and I should just man up and store stuff like films/music on an external drive (maybe even put my laptop's current HDD into a neat enclosure so its easily portable and doesn't need a mains power supply).

Thoughts, opinions. I am half tempted with the idea of getting a smaller SSD drive and putting the current one in a decent enclosure for long term storage.

when i upgrade my main rigs SSD, that 120gig SSD is going in my netbook, I don't do much on it storage wise.

I seen ads with great deals on large SSDs lately, I saw a corsair force 3 240GB for $199 so unless prices are gonna fall lower, nows the time to buy SSDs of that size.

Most laptops have 5400RPM HDD ,any SSD will be a huge upgrade, but you might want to find out if your laptop is SATA II or SATAIII.......If it's only SATA II you might be able to save more money by skipping out on the highest preforming SATA III drives.

Ah cool. Well I looked around for a SATA 2, and they're pretty few and far between in the UK. Opted for a Corsair 240GB Force Series 3 as it was the same price as the cheapest SATA 2 I could find, and being SATA 3 should mean it's a bit more future-proof should I decide to update my laptop in the next couple of years.
