SSD for me

I have a Corsair force 3 120gb at the moment but ive used all of the space in it and I need to get a new one!

It's pretty confusing as to which one to get I could get another force 3 but they do seem to be not quite as good.

I want another 120gb ssd for less than £100 I want it to be fast for files tranfers but mostly for gaming.

I was thinking maybe the crucial m4 128 but I'm not sure.

What do you guys think would be best????

Not sure you can use 'most reliable' and 'new' in the same sentence....

Nothing's been proven over time - but I highly doubt they'll beat Crucials 0.65% return rates...

Funny because Crucial just buys the Mavell controller from Marvell and slaps it on to their SSDs.

The controller that OCZ has made is a better controller than the Snadforce controller, the same as Samsung's S4LJ204X01 controller is better than the Sandforce controller. People should stop being mindless sheep and following the huuurr der OCZ baaaad crowd.

For a start - Crucial use Marvell controllers, not Sandforce...

And also, why would Crucial buy a Sandforce controller from Intel? They're different companies and direct competitors? It's like Sainsburys buying Heinz baked beans from Tesco.....

As for the OCZ drives... We are definitely not being mindless sheep. I myself have had an OCZ drive die, I also know of 2 others that have had OCZ drives die, not to mention a whole heap of people from these forums...

The truth is in the return rates...

Crucial has 0.65% return rates across the board. Intel and Samsung, I forget the figures exactly, but both are under 2%...

OCZ on average are over 7%, with some drives such as the Agility 3 having a 15% return rate.

Don't tell us not to follow the crowd, when the figures back us up. I'm glad you've not had a bad experience with them, I myself have, as have hundreds of others - backed up by the figures.

Yeah I typed Sandforce but I meant Marvell, I did edit it but you must have replied before I did.

The fact is that it is the Sandforce controller in the older OCZ SSDs that was the problem. Kingston, Mushkin and Corsair have all had problems and there have been threads on here about it and many other places.

Now that people are moving away from sandforce, not only OCZ but Kingston, Samsumg and others, SSDs are much more reliable because the controllers are much better and much more reliable.

OCZ SSDs haven't been bad since they dropped the sandforce controller, if people were not mindless sheep maybe they would already know this, guess not...

Yeah - I do know that...

But despite that, OCZ still had far higher failures than Mushkin, Kingston etc... That obviously shows that they had other issues too.

I'm not saying that OCZ haven't sorted their problems out now. But what I am saying, is it's too soon to properly tell. They've only been away from Sandforce for around 6 months now. And I definitely think 6 months is too soon to be able to recommend or see failure rates properly.

That's why for SSDs at the moment, the only 3 I'd still recommend would be Crucial, Samsung and Intel. As they have actually proven over time that their products are reliable. If in a year OCZ drives have been reliable, then I'd recommend them too. But atm, I think it's too soon to tell.

Bear in mind - it isn't just their SSDs - Their power supplies are very unreliable too.

I had the same dilemma, eventually I went with Samsung 830.
I Just purchased 2 of them 128GB for 90$ each.
The plan is to use raid 0 with them both.

Yar. I just ordered one as well. Though I personally have never had an OCZ drive, I've known people who have and I can't think of one of them who didnt complain about drive failure. Taking that into account I skipped right past OCZ and got the Samsung 830.

As far as that goes I've never seen anyone complain about a Samsung SSD dying on them.

Which is exactly why I decided to go for the Samsung 830.
A few weeks back there was a good deal on the crucial M4. It might even be slightly better in performance, but the Samsung is more reliable.
I'd rather spent a few more bucks and to have peace of mind.

Good thinking 99 ;)

I looked into the Crucial drives but no retaliers in my area but they either A) didnt stock them, or B) didnt sell them at a low enough price to be competitive with the Samsung drives.

Price being the biggest factor in 99% of all purchases, I didnt see the value of paying an extra $75 just to get the Crucial name. It wasn't all that crucial to me :P
