SSD Choice

I would of got a OCZ, but i've heard they have bad reviews on their firmware updates they do, but i think i'll go and purchase a 128GB SanDisk Ultra Plus for £71 from amazon!

had mine for a while now and it's still good, my plan was to install OS/games and have my music and RAW (from DLSR) on 500gb drive. but i'm using the 256 as just a boot drive atm :/

Ahh right, for now i think i'll whack on OS, then probably..once i find a game which i play alot..and i know i will for a while, i'll put that on the SSD aswell, but otherwise for now, i'll just use it for BootUp.

yeah i used to store my games on it then i decided waiting 5 secs longer for a game to load is nothing much plus it limits writes so will make it last longer.

TBH i could've got away for a much smaller SSD ^_^

Yeah, i'll use my 1TB WD Blue for storing my games and such, but once i find a game i do actuallyENJOY to play i will put that on my SSD.

I do run a few servers..but doesn't that burn SSD's out rather quickly because it's small updates very often, which SSD's do not like?

it's like a flash drive you can only write to it X amount of times after a while they slow down a bit, they really don't being almost full so try to avoid that :P

i used to run a minecraft server on my PC but i used to run that from a RAM drive ^_^

I only got 8GB ram.., would i have to invest in another 8GB to allocate that for Minecraft Server? I got FTB and Minecraft.

i used to give 4gb to the server, 2 GB to the game and 1GB for the RAM disk leaving 1gb for windows and it all ran fine:P

you wouldn't need to run it off a ram disk for get good speeds, you really wouldn't notice the difference

I do have 2133Mhz Ram though..not just bog standard 1600-1866, i reckon i could put it too 2400Mhz, but don't really want to kill it.

I have all ssds in my rig(2) and i just enjoy the fluidness of doing whatever I want and not having to feel/wait for the HDD. Such a small difference that you get used to you then take for granite. I try helping out family members with tech help and they all have HDDS and i have to usually sit for 1min before the hdd gets me what i need. IMO a modern pc needs all ssds to enjoy the full potential of a modern cpu and gpu.

Also go for the sandisk ssd if you have not already. Should be a quality drive:)

Yeah..been gaming for almost a year now..and..i think now with a fair decent computer..a SSD will be my next upgrade at a good time, while the prices are down! Currently running an i5 3570k, Zotac 550Ti AMP! Edition,Patriot Viper 3 2133Mhz 4x2GB, all on an ASrock Extreme 4 Mobo!

That ssd will speed up everything including the HDD. Simply because if it's running the OS the hdd has much less to do at once and therefore increases it's performance and make it last longer. SSDs only minor flaw is price but even now they are becoming more reasonable by the months.

Yeah, when i first built my computer, they were £120+ for 120GB, now for £70, i don't think they'll get any cheaper than that any time soon, so i'll grab myself a bargain while i can!

Haha, Money aint grown on trees, considering i don't really work..and still a college student..i do struggle :D But! Considering i have the money now, i think i'll get one

Same i don't work(i could but it's almost impossible where i live) so i save money while at school... Saved for 3 years and still have more to do -_-

Not bad mate! You're not doing too badly, but i think I'm going order the SanDisk SSD tomorrow, and hopefully it'll come mid week, so i can try out the fun of it!

Just put the order in for my SanDisk 128GB SSD! Be here for end of next week!

What software do i need to use to see what write/read times im getting?
