Hey Guys

I am building a HTPC/media server and I need your help setting the drives up. I have currently only a 60 GB SSD for my boot drive intalled but I would like to add 2 HDD in raid 1. Now I am not sure how I need to configure this all. Is it possible to just add the raid arry or do I need to reinstall the os? Can I set the sata controller in the bios to raid even if the boot drive is not part of the array.

Can somebody pease tell me what I need to do, I new in th OC3D forums and I would really appreciate your help.

The specs of the system are: i3 2100, Asus P8H67m EVO, 8GB Corsair XMS3, 60 GB Intel 320 SSD, the HDDs I would like to add are going to bo 2TB Seagate 7200rpm, windows 7 home premium

Thanks for your help,

MadMarc

your boot drive will be seperate from your raid array. Most boards have dual sata controllers Leave ur SSD controllers set to ACHI and set the other controller to raid.

What i did was install all of the drives and raid the storage drives in windows.

I have the OS on my SSD and 2 x 320gb in raid 0.

All you do is press the windows key and right click over Computer then select manage. This will take you into computer management, once there click on storage and right click on the HDD and create a raid drive.

It gives you the option for all raid arrays too

I have also thought about setting the raid up in the os but I have red that this is not as reliable as setting the array up in the bios, does it work well for you?

It works great, i heard mixed reviews about it too, but i haven't had a problem with it yet.

Is soooo much easier to set up too, only takes a few clicks

Thanks for sharing your experience, then I will probably set it up the way your said, or at least if I can get it to work configuring it in the bois. Maybe I will add a raid controller later but for what I am planning to use the system at the moment this won't be necessary.

forgot about that option lol yeah ur best bet is achi the controller for your ssd and then raid the others from within windows. I've done it before and had no issues at all.
