SPORE! EA have ruined another good game

Well there is a lot of confusion as to what will use an install...but the general idea is - 3 seperate pcs will count, each time you change mobo and each time you change OS (to a different one)

There could be other ways but i think it closely follows Vista/Xp's criteria for requiring activation. Apparently you can ring up EA and plead for more activation (broken motherboard etc.)

To me its gone too far...i mean iv already got a serial - why do this?

To top it off, there is already a pirated version out that requires no activation

Awesome.

How about limiting the amount of times you can run it?

EA - 'In an effort to minimise piracy we have limited the number of times the .exe can be run to... twice. We feel this represents the stereotypical uasage of heavy gamers. Any change to hardware will result in the game self destructing as this kind of behaviour is a classic pirate tactic. Continue buying as normal. There is nothing to worry about. We love you(r money)'

Does anybody know what the rules are regarding owning a license for a piece of software but using the 'cracked' version? This seems like a prime candidate for "buy the game but download the crack".

Utterly stupid EA!

Or maybe they could do a deal with hardware manufactures and cause your PC to melt everytime you start to have fun.

EDIT: Jim i'll ask my mate, he's just finished his dissertation on game ethics and stuff. He should know.

Is there anyway we could possibly use Overclock3d's power and basically declare war on EA?

This could be in the form of a petition against this DRM crap (FO SECUROM) as it is basically penalising PC gamers and almost inviting me to use a cracked version

Or send those nukes you had stored in the basement for a rainy day. I actually prefer MS to EA now...

That`d be my advice tbh. I have nothing against using these things when u own the original.

They deserve to have it pirated left right and center that's the stupidest most short sighted thing i've ever heard.

i thought they had learned their lesson after the farce of mass effect(which is one of the best games ever!).Will EA never learn?

mekes me laugh when dame pubilshers complain how the pc game market is dying and that its down to pirates, when in fact its dying due to the stupid drm measures that are appearing in most games these days-that is the reason people are now using pirated versions,so they ACTUALLY play the damm game

@Rast: I agree with you,if you own the original, then get the crack.

Meh I'll buy it and download a crack once someone cracks it. I mean, I won't need the crack as I'm likely to install it once on my PC, but it's the fact that they limit me that annoys me

would it not make more sense for them to do the same as MS with vista etc, you are allowed X number of hardware changes over a 6 month period.

Even better would be to put the game on the disc and leave it at that, no spyware!

PS

Second thought, MS would probably sue for idea infringement :)

what a joke!... then they wonder why people would rather download a game that they like rather then going out and rewarding them with their hard earned cash by buying the game!

Yep EA seem to be destroying games a lot resently. Take Mercenaries 2 for example... rumour has it that EA rushed the developers and now we are stuck with bugs. Nothing that cannot be fixed mine you.

But no Widescreen resolutions is stupid for a game in this day and age.

I am pretty sure if you have bought the software license in this case Spore you have the right to make personal copies as long as you don'tgive it out. Also editing the software cannot be a crime if it is only for you. :)

Basically,

It limits you to three installs

It only removes one when you change motherboard/hard drive or install a new OS (some say if you install the same as b4 it wont count but i dunno)

I cant believe this! ARGH

Sign petition please

arg :(

that is what they tried to do with mass effect on the pc :( there was a massive petition for that before it was released aswell and I think they decided against it in the end
