Sound card and Headphone combo ?

I'm looking at purchasing a Asus Xonar Rog Phoebus Card and a Audio Technica ATH-ADG1 headsphones. Is this going to be a good combination

personally I would say, stay away from Pheobus card. Drivers are awful.

I can't comment on the headphones since I dont have them. but I had the pheobus card and returned it as quick as I can. The Essence STX i have now is phenomenal.

If you're getting headphones, get an Essence STX, pretty much no contest for an internal solution.

Audio Technica stuff is okay but I have no experience with that pair personally.

The ATH-ADG1 is a headset, not headphones, and considering they come with a built in DAC, they really aren't what you should be looking at.

Get a clip on microphone and a proper pair of headphones with the STX.

Look for some Beyerdynamic DT770s/880s/990s, or Audio-Technica ATH-M50s, or something in that sort of price bracket.

From the feedback above me, I too agree with Xonar STX, i own one its great!
As for headPHONES, not headSETS; I totally agree with jamesriley94's recommendations. Though i'd just like to add, just get DT770s or any of the Beyerdynamic range that was mentioned, they are so comfortable compared to ATH-M50's. I know this for a fact because i have tried both and have stuck and is using the DT770s right now.

Hope this helps.

I'd get a Xonar STX as well - I own Sennheiser RS170's myself and the sound quality is amazing. They're wireless headphones, but that doesn't mean there's quality loss, in this case! And, of course, look up some reviews before purchasing anything expensive ;-)

I hope you aren't suggesting getting an STX and wireless headphones?

The 2 main features of the STX is the amp and the DAC.

Having wireless digital headphones means both the amp and DAC are effectively bypassed.

Never buy wireless headphones/headset for any reason other than needing the convenience of wireless. They certainly aren't better quality than DT770s, or anything else listed here - especially for the price.

No, sorry - missed the 'combo' part. I use the headphones for lanparties, I use a stereo-setup at home. I'm planning on buying the STX for that when upgrading my pc :)

The DAC on the headset is optional. The headphone part on the headset is supposed to be identical to the AT-ADH700 driverwise.

Heard mixed opinions on clip on microphones. Peronally I prefer a headset. I think the ADG1 and the AG1 look very interessting. I'll have a look at the reviews when they come in.

If you get a microphone, please make it a decent one. Its always not fun talking to someone who sounds like they live in a tube. I prefer headsets myself but they're not as good as proper headphones.

I"ll go with the STX but as for the headset the ADG1 is still the best option for me as here in New Zealand there are not not that many brands (and range) to chose from.

As I've said, that headset really isn't what you should be looking at. You'd be far better off with these:

are sound cards really needed or not? this id something that has been bugging me for a long time now

It really depends on what your uses are going to be to be honest. If you're running an HTPC running through TV speakers then there wouldn't really be any point. Similarly, if you have cheap speakers it probably isn't going to make a difference.

Please make your own thread rather than hi-jacking other people's if you have a specific question.

I am really sorry but it is something that has been bugging me any way kiwi68 the headset side of things you should get what ever you would likr to get
