Sony PSP

Any chance of one of you mods splitting the thread as it has got a few off topic bits in it!

Seriously Fatty mate don't bother buying those rips, you could rip your own films for nothing and have a choice of what YOU want on there then.

You can pick up a 1 Gb MSD for about £60 (use Froogle) or you could wait and get the 4 Gb HDD that is coming out relatively soon if you want tons of storage (although it does add an ungainly amount of bulk to the unit, which is not good) but tbh it's not really a problem putting new stuff on the MSD every night is it? If you have time in the day to watch a few hours of video, listen t a few albums and then still do work, then I want your job! :D

Battery life is good, I managed a solid 7 hours out of mine playing Wipeout and about 5 watching UMD movies (about 7 hours if watching MPEG4 from the MSD) (Day off)

Homebrew wise, I updated my console to V 2.0 after a week, as I quite fancied browsing the web over my secure wifi connection, something that V 1.5 doesn't offer (there's a web browser in the Wipeout UMD you can access, but it doen't allow secure access, V 2.0 does WEP, and 2.5 WPA)

One of the things which happens with threads is that they evolve and often go off topic somewhere - best to leave em as they are, although I take your point and alse note that you pulled back in line with heading, good job.

errrm, these new consoles sound powerful - like more powerful than our PC's??!

So I should sell my PC and buy a games console with XP and Office on it?

I always thought that consoles were a waste of money, cos I could just play any games I wanted on my PC; but these graphics cards sound like they are more powerful than my significantly well powered X800XT PE?

I really hope I have this all wrong!

consoles are made solely for games. If you are video editing n stuff like that then its worthwhile, also pc games have more depth...

the new consoles are a fair bit more powerfull that the pcs we use 2day, it has been said that pc's will take a year 2 catch up on the power of these new consoles. also bear in mind that these consoles where designed to be running games 2-3 years from now

~$350 for a top notch computer? Still doesn't make sense to me, I'd struggle to get the GPU alone for that?

Something can't be right here...

microsoft lose money on every xbox 360 sold mate, the money is all in the software ;)

So I should sell my PC and buy one, somehow install XP and Office, then my 3D apps, and I'm sorted.

Just need to make a hole in the case for the Mach head... :D

you could do, they will eventually crack it, and allow you to install. Its just a matter of time, they did it on the last console. I just love having my beast of a computer sitting next to me (just a statement i guess)

The one I am looking at has 1.5 firmware on it already for home brew but the memory sticks are a bit of a pinch I know I can get all the dvd rips I like off ebay they are selling like 100 movies for £25 you just need to stick them on the mem stick so how long is the battery life??

Hmmm, well I think its about 4hrs when playing a UMD game/Film

But of the card I think it lasts longer, maybe about 5hrs

I don't know for definite as I use it for about 1hr a day and charge it

every 3 or 4 days

They're VERY common. Mine has two in the top of the screen which are very noticeable during movies with borders and games with dark colours.

Sony's official line on them is that a few dead pixels is normal in the manufacture of LCD screens, therefore they will not accept units back if you have a few deads.

If you have about 20 dead/stuck pixels, then they will replace the unit for you, but there's no guarantee that your new one will have any less dead/stuck pixels and the process usually takes about 2 weeks.

I think it's ******** quite frankly, as you can get massively larger LCDs with no deads and quite often the manufacturer will replace the panel if you get enough to make the screen unusable (Sharp for instance are very good, I was using one of my first flat panels for Photoshop work and had one dead, they replaced it no quibble) As the PSP screen is dramatically smaller than a desktop TFT, any deads/stuck are going to impare the performance of the console in a much more severe manner, therefore I would have thought that the screening process/warranty support would have been a lot better. Ah well.

If you do get a unit with "stuck" pixels rather than "dead" ones, there is a video out there which cycles through RGB rapidly which can unstick them.

nah jus a single gpu mate, heres specs here

The PS3 will be running on the 3.5Ghz CELL processor, developed jointly by IBM, Sony, and Toshiba.

This new processor is supposed to bring all kinds of good mojo to the PS3, due to its ability to spread work out over as many as nine cores on a single chip.

Yeah but they tried to run graphics on the cell and had to run off to nvidia to bail them out cause it was so bad.

Well, I have high hopes for the PS3, unlike the Xbox 360

Its 100% backwards compatible with PS1,2 and i think the PSP will play a big part too

The 360 wont even be able to play most of the Xbox 1 games properly

iv also had a good look on the net, but not seen a lot of confirmed release dates for the games yet?

hope its not as bad as the Xbox 1 was when it was released

if you remember the Xbox was not doing to well, until the chip came out to allow you to play backups.:D

I will be getting all 3 next gen consoles, as theirs games on all 3 that I cant wait to play,

but if i could only have 1, I would definitely get the PS3

it's the only one out of the 3 that can play all formats of Disc

I.E - cd,rw,dvd,dvdrw,HDDVD,BRDVD.

online gaming should be beter now too, they left it a bit too late with the PS2

and NO it wont play laserDisc ;)

P.S Have you seen the new P990 Gollum?

The only real issue I have with PS3 is the blu-ray solution which is supposedly less back-up friendly than other high density DVD solutions that will come out shortly and not very PC firendly for future playback of films PS3 is a conduit for Sony to get this product to market (Betamax VHS all over??).

I for one will avoid blu-ray like the plague.
