Supposed to be quite good mate from what I've heard if you like that sort of thing. The Xbox 360 looks like the one to beat though.

Somehow I don't think that's a fair comparison. Perhaps you're thinking of the PS3 rather than PSP Phil. A fairer comparison would be to the DS which is much better for gaming - mmm touch screen. Or if you'd rather have the non-gaming features a good phone is a fair comparison. I love my Sony Ericsson p910i. However if you're after gaming and mp3/video/internet features then it's a fairly nice package.

i have a ds, nice bit of fun. I love the touchscreen but i would save the cash now for a ps3 or xbox 360

no you're right, but it wasnt meant as a side by side comparison as such.

I read that there on rev3 of firmware updates and an above normal amount of returns have occured.

Best to check with retailer to make sure you have latest firmware loaded - but they are meant to be pretty good.

There will be arguments as too whether it's better/worse/same as the Nintendo DS but ultimately I'd say it's down to personal choice.

I played on one of the first samples that came straight from Thailand for a week. Very nice devices - not the greatest in terms of battery life but the screen is nice and the games really look nice - it reminds me of that old sega drive handheld device but one that is much smaller.

It's good for movies - but then again when the games are so expensive and you will be able to get ps3 and xbox360 games for the same I'm not sure I want to be bothered. And those consoles are even better - all you get is PS2 quality games in your hand and tbh I personally don't need to have them all the time. I guess its nifty if you want a handheld cinema, music player and games device - good for ferry trips, long-haul flights etc. and the car....but beyond that would you be pounding or starring at a device like that forever?

I have mixed feelings over it and never bought one myself.

I think they are cool but feel that it just isn't worth it.

As for prices I think that £270 (when I saw them in Greece) is rather steep with 50+EUR games. It's a device of vanity really as the movies are expensive too and the storage isn't the greatest - music and film on 4GB. hrrumph.

Well if you were just saying that the xbox360 is going to be good then I'm still going to disagree. :p

Sure, it's got good features but the games are all available on the other 2 main rival consoles (or at least they were with the xbox and I don't know of any software moves to change that) except for halo (which personally I don't really like - 1st person shooters are always better on PC IMO). The perfomance is not so much better that I would sacrifice the variety of games just to get it. I'll always be a Nintendo man and mainly for the Zelda series. Fortunately all the big names like FIFA and THPS and James Bond and Star Wars and to a lesser extent SSX and Resident Evil come out on all all 3 main consoles usually so there's no selling point with the other greats.

As some of you might know, numpty******** here has had one for a month and was supposed to be uploading pictures but completely forgot up until this thread. The pictures are as follows:

I also have a video of Wipeout Pure in action if anyone fancies hosting it? It is a 17 Mb MPG in shakey hand cam mode, but does prove the graphics in action rather than from a review site.

Am loving this console so far, Wipeout Pure has to be the best game I have played since the era of the original Playstation and N64.

I've been playing it pretty much every day since I bought it and have yet to complete the bugger and am still unlocking new content and faster race classes for me to bash buttons at (seriously rock hard ******* tracks later on in the game, you need to be pre emptive for Citta Nuovo (get the game! find out what I'm jabbering about!)

Also bought Ridge Racer with it, which I have to say looks amazing.

Up until the point I started playing the console I didn't believe what the reviews had said, but I have been proven wrong, it's brilliant.

Movie playback isn't a problem, there are some brilliant encoding programs out there for decent size MPEG 4s and the resulting files look like they were originally designed to be played on the PSP screen as it's wide aspect.

I've got a trailer for Half Life 2 Aftermath on there and it looks the b*ll*cks. Also got a few parts of The Animatrix on there, and again they look and sound brilliant while only taking up about about 400 Mb (DVD quality rips)

The only thing that I am disliking about the console is the fact that the headphones supplied are a*se, (but are standard 3.5mm jack, so easily replaced with your own) and the thing picks up smudges and fingerprints for a pastime.

I'm cleaning the screen pretty much after everytime I've played, but then again I clean my PC about as much so meh!

Yes, I have had one for almost 1 year now,

just got the white one, definitely the best one to get

as you cant see all your finger prints as bad as you can on the black one.

just started playing homebrew and other bits on it ;)

its worth getting just to play the NEOGEO, snes and other classic games on

thanks to the guys that have made EMU's

if you need to know out about PSP or Homebrew, just ask and I will help you out

P.S I still think the DS is a better handheld, as its more interactive and has lots of new games that are fun, addictive and long lasting

and the best thing about Nintendo, Is that they make new games

not just sequels, or remakes.

NO

You dont want the latest firmware on you new PSP,

because if you have a firmware later than VER-2.0

you WILL NOT be able to play Homebrew on it, so stay

clear of later firmwares I.E 2.01 and 2.50

I agree with you 100%

But I have to say, im a BIG Nintendo fan, and I think all the games on the Cube are better versions than the PS2 and Xbox,

I think the only reason that the Cube is not at the top of most peoples lists

is because you could not play backup games on it for the first year or so,

and now you can, its not as easy as you can with a chipped PS2 or Xbox

I'm looking forward to the PS3, if all the clips and story's I have seen are true,

it should kick Microsoft's ass he he he

I think they made a hack so you can downgrade any firmware. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Interesting and I think you are right - The xbox uses the R520 core, known now in PC circles as X1800 (not sure of the clocks though but imagine around 575Mhz also not sure of memory used).

PS3 - is this using the 7800 core or is it using a variant of the G80??

I definitley agree reference first person shooters - although I think it's becoming more of a requirement with these units to have a keyboard and mouse - at least when I play against me mates then, having that option levels the playing field as I am useless with a pad.

Yes, you can only downgrade if you have 2.0 my PSP was 2.0 so i downgraded to 1.50 as homebrew only work on PSP,s with 1.0 and 1.50 firmware

later versions like 2.50 cant be downgraded yet

and maybe NEVER, so if you want a PSP you better get one ASAP

The one I am looking at has 1.5 firmware on it already for home brew but the memory sticks are a bit of a pinch I know I can get all the dvd rips I like off ebay they are selling like 100 movies for £25 you just need to stick them on the mem stick so how long is the battery life??
