Something fried...

Alright, so, old one is back in...

I don't seem to notice the stalling, but I have a feeling it's still there, just much less...

Nero is still corrupting on installation at random, and I updated windows as far as it goes...

Now originally, I had 2 HDs installed, one was bad. At this point, I only have my normal HD connected. Could it be the PS not providing enough to the HD or some other components? It's no longer providing power to my 2nd HD that was bad anymore, so that could explain the improvement. The replacement tester HD I used was only 6 GB and a much older model so I assume it would have used far less power...

most likely not, the difference between different modells and even years doensnt give much of a difference.

I don't mean that it starts taking less power over time. It's an old 6GB HD. I doubt 6 gig hard drives have been made in a *whiile*. For one, the spin rate is likely much much slower than what is available today, and HD's with a faster spin rate consume more power (a 5400 RPM HD is better than a 7200 RPM one in a laptop when it comes to battery life...)

i know what you mean but still the power requirment difference is barely anything at all and when it comes to laptops, well tomshardware made a test and a 7200rpm harddrive from hitachi barely made a dent in the battery lifetime compared to an slower more economical harddrive so the difference is negliable.

i just checked on an old 850mb 4500rpm harddrive and a modern sata2 7200rpm harddrive and the difference was atmost 300ma, thats not even enough to power the fan on my gfx card to full speed.

harddrives improves and one of the improvements is that new harddrives use FLuid Dynamic Bearings instead of ballbearings which gives less friction between moving parts and means less power consumption.

but if you write down the brand and modell of the harddrives its easy to check.
