Some noob questions

OK, so I know my way around air cooling quite well, however my processor is sitting a bit hot (60-63 on load) and that isn't ideal.

So what I need is a bit of advice on what pump, rad and block to get to cool a QX9770 at 4.0GHz and possibly the northbridge.

Will a 240mm rad do, if I went for a Black Ice GT type thing, with a pair of 88cfm fans on?

How much heat can they dissipate and what pump should I get to go with it?

What is the best 775 block?

Also, I move my case a lot, normally lying on its side (not upright), will the whole thing need draining and leak testing each time, in which case its probably not worth doing water cooling.

Tbh mate unless you dont mind noise then Id stay away from black ice rads.

Your spec list is pretty good so Ill take from that that your not short of a few quid.

Id say get a 120.2 thermochill, ddc pro with res top and an xspc delta v3.

Dead simple system and will give you good temps on that toasty quad.

If you want it fitting give me a shout, I can also supply the parts too matey.

Hope this helps

I'm not 100% committed, mainly because of transport issues. Will a 240mm rad be able to dissapate enough heat and what pump top should I go for, if I intend to have a drive bay mounted res (for the sake of space).

Also because I don't water cool my 280s, the noise is always going to be second to their din

a 120.2 thermochill will be fine just on the cpu, and still get a ddc pro but just get a normal xspc top. Transport should be fine it is a sealed system after all.

A pump with w res top is quite small tho dude and makes hosing easier?

Is that resevoir screwed into the pump, or is it a push fit?

Also, what size hose should I go for (I was thinking 1/2" ID)

Hi Diablo

yes the top screws to the pump as for hose if you are using 1/2 inch barbs go for 7/16 id hose that will give you a good tight fit

Actually looking at the prices of this stuff, it may be a while before I can afford to do this, mainly because I'm back to Uni soon and money is always a bit tighter there.

Any suggestions welcome though, as this might be a summer project/Easter funds dependant.

Apologies for triple posting. I've got the temps right down (20C at least) by disabling Q fan (POS). I'm now idling in the high 30s and low forties at stock, maybe mid forties oced, and load is only low fifties...
