Small talk & Chit chat

Finally started my bedroom PC build last night at 10pm. Worked through the night. It took 9 hours.

I've not painted the Devil 64 yet but I was right, it looks pretty rank.

What I did do was vertical mount the Asus D2X and it looks amazing. Goes so well with the brushed front panel.

Blue cables look pretty bad but it is very tidy.

Will try and get some pics later :)

Worst BF I've ever seen on OCUK. Ever.

My GPU is £2 more than I paid FFS.

Amazon is far better.

The thing about Black Friday is that it's actually a giant con, All throughout the year prices slowly rise, In general people don't notice it but come Black Friday all prices, Generally, Go back to their MSRP and people think "OMG What a bargain !!!"

Nah. Certain items are cheap dude. Echo show 5 has been £79.99 all year and I got it for £49.99.

I got my bro 1l Southern Comfort for £17, usually £25+.

It's a waiting game tbh, but I've not seen many PC parts yet.

Amazon offer the best deals on their own brand items really. Like huge discounts.

I think people forget that typically the actual black friday sale is November 29th. Perhaps wait till then before hating on OCUK. Sales you see now are probably just to get you looking at their site before the big day.

I used to work in retail for several years throughout the UK and Europe, The cut prices people pay on dates like BF are generally the actual price items are meant to be, You wouldn't believe the sky high amount of profit even the smallest of items gives when not on days like BF.

I think now Black Friday has settled into the British mindset, the discounts are slowly getting less and less each year. Other than that half price Evolv, I've not seen that many great deals.

One example that's left me quite salty at the moment: I'm after a Dremel but I want to get the 8220 cordless since I'll be using it for quite a lot of different stuff, and the only Dremels I've seen on offer are the lower models, like the 4000. So yea, a bit annoyed doesn't come close.

Actually there is a legal loophole in sales which should be banned but is not.

Let's say you see any item you want which appears to be on sale for £400.
It could still be the MRRP price you are looking at even though its listed as "sale"

What Franchises do is Raise the price of that product every where else to £500, but leave it at the same price its always been " £400 " for one particular store/area. Legally, they are entitled to call it on sale. Even though its not.

Because the product is more expensive everywhere else, this trick is legal.

They do this with a host of items, rotating districts or areas as the local to be targeted as the sale item.

Holiday deals past 2 years and this year will be bland as usual.

Honestly it's on the businesses fault. They start discounting and decorating for Christmas/end of year holidays once November roles around. It completely ruins the spirit of the holidays and turns the sales thing into a 2 month period. So those "BF and Cyber Monday" events don't mean much because they've been on sale already for a few weeks.

Another reason is in the US while they make record sales every year once January roles around the USPS estimates nearly $2 billion dollars of items are returned from December 26 to Jan 31. Why discount items if they just get returned anyway.

Well, here it is.

Totally ropey pic of it basically going wild. I've not set up the LED colours or case lights yet it's just basically farting rainbows.

Not bad for a Scraps 'N' Craps rig. All I had to buy in the end was a case and SSD.

Not fitted the RAID array yet as one of the drives it at home. I need to get my cousin to bring it over for me (the PC is packed now).

I was right though. The red on the Devil 64 looks hideous. I hid some of it with the vertical Xonar D2X but yeah, it does need painting.

Runs the Crytek ray tracing demo as good as my 2070 Super.

Oh yeah. I've not peeled anything yet, hence why it's a bit murky.

Get that red changed to black on the V64, And your other LED's colour matched, And that will be a very sleek looking build, Nicely done :)

On a side note, I was a little bored today so decided to do a quick 2009-2019 Far Cry 2, My favourite game that year, Comparison between my rig then vs my rig now same settings etc... Again just for fun :P

But hopefully not red.

It's very bright in there. There's 7 fans. Three front, three roof and one on the AIO. Hopefully it has a brightness setting I've not looked at the remote yet.

Need to cut some flat black vinyl and cover the alien head. Hoses are super short.

But yeah overall very happy. Will make a great bedroom rig.

Planning on my next build which will come when DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 become a thing, and I'm trying to make it 'brand neutral' while avoiding the usual suspects like RoG and Corsair, but I am making it all AMD, nothing will change that. Anyone got any ideas on the best gear I should get? So far I've thought of:

Motherboard: AsRock
GPU: Sapphire
RAM: G.Skill
Cooler: NZXT AIO or Custom Loop (budget permitting)
Case: Phanteks (Already bought)
Fans: Noctua
PSU: Seasonic
