Small form factor office PC with the option to add GPU later on

Hey guys,

I will be needing to build a new computer for uni. I am looking for something that is a relatively small form factor and would be easily packed into a suitcase luggage to transport home during summer holidays.

I also want to be able to add a GPU later on down the line, as I don't want to use it as a gaming rig whilst at uni. The option to add a GPU later on is not required, but it is something I want to consider when choosing the powersupply.

The budget is up to 600-700 pounds (including a monitor). I would also like to have 16 GB of RAM and use a larger SSD, either 256GB or a 512GB SSD.

Thanks :)

What is a good place to buy the parts from? I will be living in Glasgow at the time of getting this computer. I heard that scan.co.uk is good, but what is their return policy (i.e. I don't like a particular product because it doesn't fit and how will they refund it).

Oh damn I just noticed I was on the us site of partpicker and it showed the US shops...

Well my cousin who built his pc bought some parts from ariapc some parts from scan and some parts from ocuk, didn't complain.

If you want solid return policy though Amazon is great

Believe it or not, I have never bought things Amazon. Do you just send it back to the address you received it from or how does the whole amazon return policy work. Do you pay for the shipping?

They send someone at your door to pick up the item. My cousin had a problem with the MSI mobo he bought from amazon and immediately requested a refund they send the courier at his home to pick it up and refunded his money no extra costs -as I think he mentioned-

Oh that is pretty neat. Regarding a case, I am looking for something that is easy to pack into a suitcase. However at this point perhaps even an m-atx standard case would work, since they are not that wide. Any thoughts on this?

Fractal Design node 202 Slim enough, it might even fit into a backpack

Node 202 is very compact but should fit your needs.

One thing to keep in mind though is CPU temps. As nothing really that much taller than a stock cooler will fit into the case due to it's slim profile. But for just student work it won't be a problem. Also down the line when you eventually get a GPU, stick to reference ones. Less heat thrown in there the better.

I was thinking something along these lines:

I am still not sure about the SSD - last time I bought an ssd it was still 1.5 pounds per GB.

I am not sure about the RAM type but I do want 16 GB of it. I don't know how it works with DDR4 now.

Regarding the PSU, I am assuming the RM---X replaced the old AX series in corsair.

Regarding the CPU cooler, is it worth getting the liquid cooler, or would I be better off with a small form factor Noctua CPU cooler. I am looking for quiet but also not overheating. I might be looking into overclocking but to be honest I am not sure if it is going to be worth it with this computer. I might jsut get a locked i7.
