Slow Network Printer Response

[ Facts: ]

I don't have any verions of Windows Server nor do I have a print server. I have a printer connected to another computer in another room and I've shared the use of the printer with my username and password.

[ Problem: ]

When printing a document through the network, there seems to be a fourty second hiatus before the document begins printing. I've stood over the printer prior to this mysterious duration and from what I gather, the printer doesn't recieve a print signal until after the hiatus. When browsing through computers in My Network places, there is no duration. Does anyone know how to fix this?

[ Postscript ]

I havne't searched the net for a solution yet so if this problem is easily corrected don't attribute that to a lack of knowledge on my part. I figured I would post this problem in a few places and wait to see what the responses were before I put my homework and work related tasks on the side.

Thanks,

I have pretty much the same setup as you... Have my printer hooked up to my backup computer in the room next door and print to it from the other machines in the house. Though I don't have your problem, printing seems to be pretty instantaneous.

WiFi network?

i get this problem, but having to go downstairs to get the printout normally takes enough time anyway.

if the above fixes it, let me know.

54 G will max @ bout 3.5 Mb/s if u are printing a large document the client computer tranmits the PRINT DATA to the print server... this may be a large amount of data depending on wat u r printin .... compare the speed of a PDF to a text document (the .txt should be instantaneous) -- this will allow us to rule out network latency in the troubleshooting
