Should I return GTX 580 and get GTX 590?

Hello everyone,

I've been building my current PC on and off for the last few months and my specifications are as follows:

- Asus Sabertooth X58 motherboard

- Intel Core i7 950

- GTX 580 (evga)

- Corsair Vengeance 8gb

- Shitty Xcase Power Avenger

The reason why I purchased the GTX 580 was mainly because my friend had one and it looked as if it could pretty much run everything maxed out however what I didn't know was my friend's screen resolution (1680x1080) was a little lower than mine I have a 1080p monitor (1920x1080) which obviously meant that games would run better for his set up than mine.

I bought my 580 from amazon for 390 pounds I have 20 days to decide to return for a full refund and save for the GTX 590 instead... c'mon it's only like another £170 I'd probably be able to acquire that in a couple of weeks but I kept saying to myself when I was saving for the 580 "Oh when I get this I will finally be happy with my set - up ..." and now I'm thinking the same thing again for saving for the 590 maybe I'm just that sort of person. -never happy) getting that annoyed from a couple of metro 2033 settings to return the card.

I'm trying to think of the future, if I kept the 580 later this year I would probably be kicking myself because the only other way to upgrade would be a 580 sli but think about it later this year the 590 would of dropped in price and it will become more and more common for people to be running those in sli...

What do you think? am I just obsessed or am I making sense?

I need feedback.

-Steve

and yea u make sense, because i bet we all say "well if i just get this....."

u just running one monitor? i think you should keep the 580..

i guarantee if u get the 590, you will think "why didnt i keep the 580 and save my money for the GTX6xx series card" and that will go on forever

im limiting myself to getting a GTX570, it meets all my needs, and will do so for the forseeable future..

( and my missus wants a shiney ring for her birthday )

keep the 580 and if u REALLY feel that money burning a hole in your pocket.. buy a new case lol

Yeah, the case is god awful good point. I'm a tad annoyed though it seems like I'm going back on everything I got for the build... the ram for instance I now want the noctua dh14 and no way will that fit nicely with vengeance ram! and now regretting the 580 will it ever end?! I think not.

Thats the price we pay for being PC enthusiasts. Next to cars, i would say PC hobbies are close to being the second most expensive and time consuming hobby out there.

this is all depending on if you can find a 590 when the time comes. But I'd say stay with the 580 it should run anything out there maxed with decent fps. I have a 570hd and it plays crysis 2 ultra settings 1920 x 1200 at around 35-50fps

You, sir, are nuts. Keep the 580, it overclocks like a pro, and I've seen only two games where I don't get decent framerates.

Hi,

I'd keep that 580 if I were you, it will be a fine card for that resolution. I'm using a single GTX 570 at 1920x1200 and it's been great.

If you can though, spec your PSU so in the future you have the option to add a 2nd 580 - that will certainly give things a healthy boost.

I'm waiting on my 2nd 570 at the moment, though I needed a better PSU as well.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Scoob.

Have you ever had Rc cars? They drain your pocket dry lol

I have RC helicopters and they come close. i have a $1500 RC copter. but the last time i spent a dime on that was for fuel and it's about $21 for 2 runs. other than that, my PC is worth about $2500, but thats ONLY what it could be sold for. you have to calculate how much and come in and out of your PC. i have had AT LEAST $5000 worth of parts come in and out of my PC sense 2009. and its always been AMD based.

Collecting cars, maintaining boats/yachts, golf, women, so long as you got the money to throw around then whatever.
