Should I Go SLI ???

Hey All,

I currently have a 7800gtx running my Dell 2007wfp at 1680x1050 but its starting to struggle at running things like Need For Speed Carbon at a decent fps (ussually 40fps average).

So I was thinking, would it be worth me buying another 7800gtx (around £100 now) as I read somewhere SLI becomes more effective at higher resolutions.

I might also consider selling my 7800gtx and upgrading to another card but dont want to spend much more than £100 to be honest.

What do you think...

Thanks, Sam

Well if I were you I'd wait for next year when some more DX10 cards are out.

SLI 7800GTX would be ok at that res, but then you may want to wait a bit

Well I am in no rush Kemp so I suppose waiting wouldnt be a problem.

It runs all my games fine but I thought another card might just help make things a little bit smoother.

I know what your saying, as in 12 months time I will have 2 cards worth pennys and therefore no money to contribute to a new card.

After running SLI, I can honestly say i much prefer single card setups. I'd save up ur crimbo mullah, flog ur current card asap and get a nice spanky new card

Ye that's it mate. Save some of that chrimbo mmoolah and splash it on a nice new card like Jim said :)

After working with the 8800 series it's deffo worth it

Will I not be held back though by still running AMD 64 instead of Conroe :(

Depends on what 8xxx series card you are planning on going for tbh. Also depends if you are thinking on going Conroe in the near future?

If you are gonna go conroe soonish, then you might as well get a card that will compliment the conroe when you purchase it. If you have no plans on upgrading then maybe consider SLI (but personally i'd just save the money up for conroe).

Its not that I dont want to upgrade Jim its just alot of money and I am happy with my system as it is for the moment. I just fancied a few more fps (hence thinking about sli) but I will probably end up upgrading next year ;)

I agree with Kempez...

Whats the point in an upgrade to SLI when you can now upgrade to an 8800 which is just as good as SLI...? (some cases)

In my opinion the whole 7xxx was a waste..:(

Because with the 8xxx and DirectX 10 around the corner whtas the point in upgradeing to the top of the 7s? I see alot f people made the wise choise of going for the cheaper 7600s then the 7900 and 7800.. I guess this is because of the 8s..:D

I stuck with my 6800 and added another just to run Oblivion with eye candy. :D

Logical to me :D

Because another card will cost me like £100 where as a 8800gtx will cost around £350 plus a new water block. Ok fair enough i might get £100 for my current card so the whole upgrade would cost around £250 which I quite simply cant afford

Just save your cash until some new DX10 cards come out as the others up there ^^^ have said. I'm running one BFG 7800GTX 256mb and that is what i'm doing.

And dont forget just because the 8800 cards are $$$ now in a couple of months when ATI starts to release their new cards and Nvidia starts to fill out its line too prices will come down..

Exactly what I was gona say :)

I'm gona wait until a game comes out which I can't run at the settings I would prefer. Then hopefully by that time Ati will be competing in the dx10 card department and driving down prices

yup also 8800s are DX10 only while R600 is said to be DX10.1 ;)
