Shelfuter

Shelfuter is my first mod pretty much, you can't really class a side panel mod a mod because of how easy it is. but anyways.

I do have some joinery experience of course, and a step dad who works with stainless steel anyways pics below

Ok, the wood here is just simple chipboard, When I built the shelving I wasn't particularly going for anything fancy. So I will be putting wood at the back there and to the right all the way to the bottom of the shelf, I don't fancy showing much of the wall.

I will be covering over the screws you can see to the left. I will possibly get my step dad to make me a mobo tray as well as pci slots and the I/O. but we'll see

I will fill in the gap at the far bottom right as well. and cover the screws over. I aim not to have any visible screws

So your aware, The shelf to the right is also exactly the same as it is to the left of the TV, it's an absolute mirror image apart from the shelf to the left being 2 cm smaller in width. I just haven't included it in the picture for some reason

So yeah, dimensions.

height: just under 640mm
depth: a foot, just over 300 mm
width: just under 400mm

So I have a fair amount of room to play with.

Part 1 will be putting my hardware in (hardware below)

• GA 970A-DS3
• AMD FX 6200
• 2x4GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600MHz
• Powercool 550W PSU (might change)
• AMD 5750 GPU (changing for a 7950)
• 90GB Corsair Force GT 90GB SSD
• 1TB HDD, 320GB HDD
• Noctua fans

Part 2 will be watercooling it, although the watercooling part will be split into 2 parts as well

• BlockNot so sure, I quite like the Koolance stuff, as it would match my white and black theme seems there blocks are a black/silver sort of colour. The EK supremacy is also an option, would go for the nickel plated plexi verion.
• Rad 360 alphacool Monsta Rad, possibly the white version
• Fittings Going to go for the Matte Black fittings or the deluxe white from Bitspower.
• Coolant Will go with blue coolant
• Tube Tubing will be blue
• Pump/Res DCP 4.0 Set

Going to have to think more about cable management, perhaps by leaving 20-30mm between the wood and the wall at the back and have various cable management holes.

It looks pretty cool and its a cool idea but you might consider adding a couple of verticle braces under the tv to the floor, chipboard isn't the strongest and it will get weak with weight.

I know, the entire shelf does have a small dip due to the TV, Although that can't be seen in the photo. In my opinion having something to support it from the floor doesn't make it a shelf, if you get me drift. So i might just put a second chipboard to have two layers of wood at the bottom, which might just take away the dip.

why not just put a battern across the front edge to make it stronger

Could do that, it would certainly be the easier option. If I were to do what I intended first, I'd have to shorten the wood between each shelve which would be time consuming indeed. I'll probably end up doing a battern, Thanks for suggesting

yer you could use some 2x2 timber and then if you have some of the other wood left you could always cover the battern so from the from and maybe the under side it looks like the same wood as the rest

Didn't get what you meant earlier, but I get you now. I do have some wood left, and I intent on getting more. About 2000mm x 300mm x 15mm (length x width x thickness). I currently only have 600 in length, which was left over from the actual shelving originally. That 600mm might just cover the front, if the battern is no bigger than 70mm in height. As I figured out

After a fair amount of time thinking, I am deciding not to go with a 360 monsta radiator because it won't fit, this is because of the sheer size, I was hoping to fit a 360 monsta rad in the floor, but it's too big by around 20mm-30mm. I could do a 240 monsta rad in the floor and another 240 monsta rad on one of the sides, but again they take up too much space. So I'm thinking a 480 rad from alphacool with a 30mm (or 45mm) thickness in pushpull. The Sketchup makes this easier to understand. Will be posting it soon.

I'm going to be short on money for the next 2 weeks due to my driving test, hopefully I pass so I don't waste money on it I'll be getting my uni maintenance loan soon as well, so that's £900, although I generally put half of that to my savings and I live on the rest. I'll certainly be able to get the wood I need. Also some hinges for a door, bit of Acrylic or Plexi for the window on the door. New PSU and GPU might have to wait, watercooling components certainly will.

Going to be starting on this on Thursday I hope or possibly sunday or anytime next week. Hopefully will be purchasing a HX650 Gold rated PSU and a 7870 from Club3D from amazon.

EDIT: Sketchup seriously needs updating, will get onto that.

btw, Chipboard is notorious for sagging, because it has no real strength.

I had discovered this yes. The photos make it look worse than it is. It is very odd how it's hard to see any sagging when eye level with the bottom shelf from a fair distance. Batterns, or just big bits of timber are rather cheap, I could get one for like £5. Also need another bit of board, which will cost me about £20. 2000mm x 450mm x 20mm, which will be more than enough for everything, I think.
