Setup GPU Client for 2nd GPU

Hey Guys

I'm using the Console version of the GPU CLient, how'd I go about setting it up for second GPU????

Cheers Hay

If I remember correctly you need to run a second client in a different directory and put a flag in both clients to separate the two (in the first instance put the flag -gpu 0 and the second instance the flag -gpu 1)

Also during setup you need to go to advanced options and set machine id = 3 or something other than 1 or 2 (I'm assuming you're already using 2 clients: 1 cpu and 1 gpu).

Edit: I'm sure this might sound very vague so I'll see if I can find a multi-gpu guide somewhere

I believe you still need to either connect the second gpu to another monitor, a dummy plug, or extend the desktop to the second card in Windows.

I have only 1 client at the mo, not sure how to set up the CPU either...... sorry compete Noob......

Basically for each client you have running on the same machine, you need to set a unique machine id so that the clients are separate. You can configure this in advanced options when you run setup. This is not needed if you have only one client running, but when you want to run more than one, you need to specify separate machine ids.

C:\GPU0\Folding@home-Win32-GPU.exe -gpu 0 -verbosity 9

C:\GPU1\Folding@home-Win32-GPU.exe -gpu 1 -verbosity 9

The above are the shortcuts from my machine with the folders being GPU 0 and GPU 1

The first GPU machine ID will default to 2, so set the 2nd machine ID to 3

Do you need a monitor connected, to the machine, as I am running it throw Remote Desktop from my main Rig.....

Also it has just started another unit and in the CMD screen say "Extra SSE Boost OK" not seen that before?

You don't need a second monitor connected, and I think as of very recently you no longer need a dummy plug, but you do need to extend the desktop to the second card through Windows.

And SSE boost is normal.

sorry to act thick...... so you do need atleast one monitor plugged in, as I am controlling main thru Remote Desktop, so NO monitor plugged in at present..

So how do I set up CPU folding and what client do I use?

By the way am using the Folding@home Console Client from the Stanford Website, for the GPU

Ok I have now finished setting up the CPU, I think I have done it ok, have set the Machine ID to 3, as the one GPU I have ruuning at the mo is set to 1, and when I set the next GPU up will be set to 2, hope this is right

Anyway here is a screenshot, let me know if I have messed up anywhere

Also now the CPU client is running, I have gone into task Manager to see CPU Usage, and its 24% I thought it would be FULL load

Can't really tell from the screenshot, is there a bigger one? :D

I forgot to tell you to add the -smp flag to the smp client. Close the client, add the flag, delete the 'work' directory where you installed the cpu client, and start it up again. It should now download a new work unit and use all your cores.

How'd you add the Flag???? I added -smp -verbosity 9 as it said in the instruction, but don't really get what that does?

Yeah, they're correct.

I've just added a full SMP guide and I'm writing up a GPU guide atm. :)
