So i have my system, 2500K and a GTX 560ti, but i also added an old gts 9600? which i want to use just for folding....so i can still use my computer and fold at the same time....is this a difficult setupt? also i would like to be able to easily turn on the rest of my system (560 and 2500k) when im not doing anything on the comp or am at work and let it fold but be able to turn it off again when i need the computer while leaving the 9600 folding....any advice? please

i have the 9600 in right now, with my 560ti, and i have F@H set to fold on the 9600....but it isnt doing anything when i click fold...says running but no gpu usage, no progression....i have a monitor hooked into the 9600 as i red issues with that but still no luck plz help

How long have you left it "folding"? When I tested a friends system it said it was folding but didn't seem to start doing anything for about 15 minutes.

I don't see why you could just pause all other folding clients except the one gpu one and carry on using your system. But I'm no expert.

The only thing I would be mildly worried about is power consumption. Can your psu handle everything going at full whack?

well it is a 750 watt ps.....i left the system running overnight lastnight....and the cpu folded all night...but neither video card did anything....

Strange, so neither cards folds at all?

At least your power supply should be fine then.

If you go into device manager/nvidia control panel, does it pick up both cards as active and working? When you start folding do you have a windows gadget or anything that tells you the current load do the gpu?

ya its showing me both cards there...i set it to fold lastnight on my 560 and my 9600 and the cpu....only the cpu did anything the 9600 is at 0% and unknown for everything, the 560 gives me a 5 hr eta and still at 0%

I just had a problem like this the other day. Basically the GTX460 I have folding was causing the computer to be to slow to use, so I put a 8400GS in it. The 8400GS can fold but it's too slow to be worth it and defeats the point of putting it in to handle display purposes. However the V7 client detects it as "foldable" The problem I had was that the v7 client got it backwards and wanted to fold with core 11 on GPU 1, and core 15 on GPU 0, which is opposite of what it needs to be. I had to manually set which card is GPU0 and which is GPU1.

Not saying this is your issue, but it could be. i.e. the 9600 needs to fold on core 11, and 560 on core 15 but it's doing it backwards which causes nothing to happen. It's almost the same symptoms I had. My 460 "said" it was folding but wasnt and the 8400 just wasnt doing anything. The logs will tell the tale.

its showing me my 9600 at gpu 0 and my 560 as gpu 1

9600 is core 11 and the 560 is core 15

Aaa its a shame to see you give up jeff, was just reading through as I've had the same situation. My rig runs and folds fine with just my GTX 560 however the other day i thought.... "why not put my old 8800GTS in" ive got the room and enough power surplus (I fell into the trap of gettin a psu far above my requirements... doh...). With the 8800 in its detected. its given a folding slot, however both the 560 and 8800 are showing as folding however stuck at 0.00% forever and a day...

I tried a fresh install however i ended up stumped aswell so pulled the 8800 out and im back to folding as normal now. Curious if anyone else has ever had this problem or knows of a solution. I know the 8800 wont give much of a PPD advantage but every little helps as they say

Bobs did you try messing manually with telling the client which is GPU0 and which is GPU1? I still think that is both of you guys problem although it doesn't matter now that you both have pulled the cards haha!

Am I understanding this correctly, you can add just any GPU to your rig for folding?? If I would add my 8800GTS even though I have a GTX 680 I could still use that to fold??

Yes, but it's only worth it, if it's the newer 8800GTS. The 512mb version with a G92 (or G Ninty-Something) core.

The 8800GT/GTS/9800GT (with the G9x core) are nice little folders putting out +/- 5000 PPD.

However as you have seen some people have trouble getting them to work.

My advice, and this goes for anyone having trouble, is to use GPU Tracker V2 and in the settings disable client hiding. Along side that have HWMonitor (from the guys that do CPU-Z), MSI Afterburner and as an added bonus GPU-Z.

GPU Tracker V2 sets up everything automaticaly but you can start the clients one at a time. On top of that it is very easy to change the config of each GPU if thigs have been detected wrong.

When you have GPU Tracker V2 set up, have HWMonitor and MSI Afterburner running too so you can see which GPU is being activated (as in, is it the one you expected) and with the client window showing, you can see what the client is doing. As in, is it getting stuck, does it keep resetting, is it actually downloading a new work unit.

All this will allow you to troubleshoot and will also give us more infomation if you need help trouble shooting.

It's the G92 640mb version and I would sell it but it looks awful so I was gonna use it in a server later but it's just in a box waiting for me to build a server so it may go to some good use instead of just sitting there. Is it possible to use V2 for only that one GPU and V7 for the rest?

Edit: My computer won't detect the card

It's the G92 640mb version

Can't be. G80 had 320, 640MB, G92 was 512MB. I seem to remember a special G80 version that had 112 shaders(same as 8800GT G92) maybe thats what you were thinking?

Folding isn't detecting it, or it's just not detected by OS period?

Sorry it must be G80 then. I had a card that was G92 512mb

I removed it. It looks terrible in my rig so it will just become a keychain...

Haha, I hope you cut it down first! Hard time fitting that whole card in your pocket! Although you might be an instant hit with the ladies LOL.

8800 GT (G92) was one of the great pieces of hardware, performance, power usage, had a great lifetime for the money spent(and still useful), maybe the 460GTX is the new 8800GT, but I'll always have a place in my heart for that 8800GT.

I will only be using the chip itself for a keychain... I already have one from a HD 4870

But this is all way off topic... Gonna shut up now :x

hehe, nice keyring. I may have to do the same.

When i had the 8800 in it was auto detecting, looked like it was configured correctly, work units downloaded and stated they were running but stayed at 0% forever. I may give it another go tonight, manually configuring them

otherwise its being put back into the 'man draw' full of old/broken hardware cables and dead batteries.
