Screen doesnt work with hdmi and dp

Hey guys

I have 2 monitor a Dell U2515H and an Acer G246HL the Dell is using a MiniDisplayport and the Acer is running with a DVI, which is working perfectly fine. However, the DVI cable is a little too short and looks really odd in my setup. So I wanted to switch it out with my longer HDMI, but when I connect the HDMI to the Acer my Dell goes into power saving mode. I don't understand why.

What does the display properties show connected to your card?

Have you tried manually switching the input to HDMI? on my asus i sometimes have to do that if the auto select isnt finding the right input.
