any help would be greatly appreciated

ugh, so heres whats up

I run the following

av8 socket 939 uguru mobo (K8T800 PRO / 8237 chipset)

OEM xp-PRO sp1a

2 WD raptors 10krpm SATA (74 gb)

I need to reformat.. but I boot windows and the sata drives are not recognized. I figure out I need to format a floppy with the drivers necisary for windows to recognize the drives but whenever I do that I get errors.. does anyone know where to find the drivers that actuallu work and how to format them onto the floppy?

cant seem to find the exact driver I need (the ones you put onto the floppy) It seems to always say there is an error with the text.oem and something about a error in a line xpsp1 :wavey: :worship:

Firstly welcome to :anisx:! We're glad that you've come for answers to your questions, our staff and members are the best around.

Let's start off with a few basic elimination question. In the BIOS, you do have your SATA ports connected to your 2 hd's set to be enabled and in RAID mode correct?

If so, is your computer overclocked? AFAIK via chipsets don't have SATA locks which means any overclocking can and will cause data corruption and hd failure / errors. Try going back to stock speeds and trying it again, the provided RAID drivers should work just fine.

I hope I can be of more assistance to you as I run the same hd setup :)

thanks for your hasty response, and as for the answers

a. No, I dont have a raid array, I have windows on one and the other just acts seperatly from it all as extra space bios doesn't really seem to mention my hdds until further loading where it lists the 2 I have.

b. nope, no OC'ing whatsoever.. restored default bios

heres the error message I frequently get when trying to load the sata drivers with f6

"file txtsetup.oem caused an unexpected error (1024) at line 1742 in d:/xpclient/base/boot/setup/oemdisk.c

(above is not exact error but what I managed to write down)

again thanks very much for haste and understanding in my issue.

No problem.... talking to you on AIM now :)

here is the full error message whenever I put the floppy in with the drivers from my mobo cd and select the proper driver

"File/Raid/winxp/viaraid/sys caused an unexpected error (18) at line 2108 in d:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c."

press any key to continue

Have you checked your XXP cd to make sure that it is not scrated?

Also, i'd try and download the SATA drivers directly from your motherboards site and put them on a floppy - they may be newer than the ones you've got.

what motherboard do you have, are your SATA cables correctly incertaid into your motherboard vice vera with HD's is there any visable damage on the cables it self

also: File/Raid/winxp/viaraid/sys caused an unexpected error (18) at line 2108 in d:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c

if im not mistaken the motherboard still see's this as "raid"

it also could be conflicts between the VIA chipset and windows possibly, as ive learnt myself computer problems are very difficult to issolate

Sometimes I wonder if u even read posts, rofl...

So do i....

Um well this chaps not even using his SATA drives in RAID, so he should have the RAID BIOS disabled and SATA enabled. This should then recognise the drives as IDE drives (don't ask why) and then he should be able to re-format the drive as normal....

We discussed this on AIM and none of that worked either :(

I automatically assume anyone with 2 Raptors is going to put them into uber godly RAID 0 :D

That's bloody weird...cause it should do. Mine had that problem but I had the RAID BIOS enabled. After I disabled it and got it to read the SATA drive as IDE, it was fine. :p
