So basically, I was just running my computer as normal, I go to put a disc in (Crysis) and it doesnt read it at all. I then put a movie and another disc in and none of them read. It just shows it as an empty drive. Ive tried taking the drive out, cleaning it at the back and putting the wires back in. It just wont work.

Any solutions/suggestions?

Thx.

Had a dvd drive do something like this to some1 whilst I was on holiday.

To cut to the problem with their drive, there was a cd for their printer drivers, when this cd was attempted to be used, the dvd drive just refused to read it. Immediately after it woudn`t read anything, dvds/music/whatever.

Rebooted the pc and the drive failed as soon as the driver cd was used.

Turned the pc off and on, stuck a dvd in first and it read it fine. Then the music one - fine. Then driver cd for the printer and it worked. And continued to work.

Only thing I noticed with the driver cd was that it was mm smaller than the other discs.. why that would do anything I don`t know.

With any luck it may work for u, big longshot tho.

The thing is, I dont remember getting a driver CD. I definately dont have one though. :(

EDIT - Ooh! Wait a minute, it reads my motherboard CD.

:( I got this error;

---------------------------

SETUP.EXE - Application Error

---------------------------

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click on OK to terminate the application.

---------------------------

OK

---------------------------

EDIT - I inserted the motherboard disc, It shown up on My Computer and then I clicked it, i got the error above but then when i removed the disc it still showed the motherboard disc. I put in another disc and it couldnt read them. It seems only to be happening with DVD's.

I only got the actual DVD drive 5 days ago, do you think if I return it they will swap it for another one?

If it doesnt work, or i dont find a good solution within the next 2-3 days, Ill just bite the bullet and get another one. They are only 20 quid, but its pointless wasting a perfectly good piece of hardware.

Hi everyone,

I've got the same problem with my Samsung SH-S223F, and I've took it back to my supplier, and they tested it, it obviously works on their machine, could this be a Motherboard + DVD Drive related issue? I've been searching around on the internet, and this is totally not a problem which is unseen, these issues only arise on specific Asus Boards, and other Boards which I can't remember at this moment.

Any tips on how to resolve it? I was thinking of trading in my Drive and Purchasing a Sony or Asus Drive (I got 3 Sony's in my other machines) and they are way more superior, but would that solve the bad block in the drivers? I'm obviously missing the UpperFilters & the LowerFilters, or should I just get a replacement drive of the one I got? I'm pretty much uneven by Samsung's Achievements now? this must be the crappest product by Samsung I've purchased in my 6 years of using technology (I'm 17).

Since my Motherboard is an Asus p5n-e the problems just could be compability issues, which I have gathered from researching Google and Yahoo.

Give me your opinions please, I've discussed this with my collegues and my supplier, and they obviously are clueless...

gotmaxpower, since you have experienced the same with me, everything is just similiar, I was playing Crysis and my drive went wrong, since you got your replacement did everything work? and what drive did they replace it with?

Best Regards

Tim

*PROBLEM RESOLVED: Replaced Drive - Thanks anyone who wanted to help like =/
