Safe Temp

OK.. I have just installed my new Shuttle AN50R MB and I am seeing how high I can push the CPU..

I am getting a CPU temp of about -12 at idle.. Now when I put my system through 3dmark2001 and then look back at the temps I can see that its risen to +10 but soon drops when 3dmark has finished.

Is this OK?????

You can see from my webtemps pic what temps I was getting. The one in the blue. This is while I was benchmarking

OK.. I will whip it off tonight and double check..

Sealing string. Am getting short. is there anything else that I can use or do I need to order from from you phil?

Cheers

yeah i did notice that epic, also i wudnt like to try using anything else it prolly aint gonna be as good and u dont want to tempt phate with leaking condenation everywhere :P

did u use thermal grease in/arround the CPU socket? if so which sort did you use?

err. nope... Should I??? I do have some for when I did my GPU...

I did wonder that but as I did not read it anywhere, not even on the guides on the net I did not bother

As you can see, as I increase the voltage and FSB the temps get higher

well id check with phill first, but im sure i read that you need to apply some good thermal paste-y stuff, you know the really think gunky stuff to get best performance, but as i said wait to speak to phill or some1 in the know how

Its definitely not right mate - you have a contact problem there. I didnt run my shuttle for long under a Mach II but temps were good, so its not the bios - it's definitely your contact. It's not going to "knacker" it at all mate so dont worry but obviously you want the best contact possible.

Phil, am i right in thinking you do need to apply lots of thermal paste in the socket to stop condensation etc?

Phil. Can you also confirm the part about the sealing string. will I need to place an order with you or can I go to B&Q or something

Noooooo! You do not need to apply any paste in the socket! I dont ever touch the socket when I install the mach II. I just use the bare minimum of seal string and I've very rarely suffered condensation out of probably 120 builds now.

What do you want to know about the string mate? You get a round of it when you buy a cpukit, or I can sell double packs of the stuff - it's not that cheap though really, although it is brilliant stuff.

doh that sux, glad i told him to check with you, im sure the thing i read off nvetivs website the guy used it, covered the socket with it, pushed the CPU in and then applied some on the top of the CPU itself, so what stuff do u use on the CPU > head?

its just that I am running low...

I changed my MB yesterday and made an error and put it on the wrong was and wasted some stuff... I might have enough to take it off and check that I have a good contact.

Can I re-use the stuff???

It says on the nVentiv website and in the manual somewhere that you can reuse seal string yea, if you cant its never done me any harm. Was using the same lot without even touching the reel again for months on my Mach1, and that was with about 15-20 system rebuilds over those months.

just as well I kept it then.. Cheers for that

I have reseated my head and I am getting a temp of -19 idle

I am using my laptop and the only other program running on my PC is webtemp

is -19 right???? This is the temp reported from the MB
