Did you stick a Gen 5 NVME in just to see if it works ?

I've been using a similar type 4 port card (Asus Hyper M.2 V2 - Gen 3) for about 4 years. Really useful in adding or repurposing M.2 cards. On my platform (AMD X570), it will activate 2 slots as I'm using a physical X16 but wired x8 slot. Got a couple of older Samsung 970s in there now.
