Running MSN Messenger with XP 64 Bit

...Is a nightmare. I have been using Windows Messenger for ages but really getting sick of it so want to get a newer Live Messenger but not compatible with XP 64 Bit. I have found one that is supposed to be but it keeps crashing which is annoying too. Anyone know how to get around this ???

Never had a single problem with Live messenger on x64 myself tbh. Maybe give WML 8.5 (Windows Messenger Lite 8.5) a try - you'll have to google it tho for a download site.

Never had an issue here either

I can`t imagine that something as simple as msn doesn't work even on 64 bit xp.

I'd tend to think something else is giving u the issue like some malware or something. Even part of the OS install being busted.

I have just tryed installing the latest version and it told me that it isnt compatible with 64 bit or Server.

Instead got the previous version and it keeps crashing.

So, can anyone give me some instructions on how to get it working ?

I have Live Messenger 8.5.1302.1018 on XP x64 and works fine. Your problem is that it is XP x64 Vista support is good but XP they force the installer to say no. Google your want and you shall be rewarded with an MSI file to install the new messenger with the NTVersion>=600 changed to NTVersion>=501.

Started playing up again. Last night it worked perfectly, tonight it keeps crashing again.

Argghhh so annoying.

I have tryed googling it so many times and its still not playing ball.

Ok, so i have given it one more go. I have found the MSI files for the latest BETA version and it has installed without a hitch.

What has become apparent though is that it will run for a while then just bring up an error report and close which indicates to me that there muct be something going wrong somewhere else.

Is there anything i should be checking ?

No idea TBH I know many people who have used it as a click and shoot install. I can only think your system has a bug in it. Perhaps a ACPI problem or something else lame like that.

Do you know if theres a free app anywhere i could download to test the relevant bits.

Weird because everything else runs fine.

If it helps the message is:

Runtime Error

Line 1

Do you want to debug?
